I think the argument is moot because we both basically have to start from scratch at offensive tackle. Davenport and Rankin were really bad, I agree.

Parnell was always backup level, from the day we signed him from the Cowboys bench after he played 7 games. Robinson is a player whose biggest flaw was his sloppy footwork and blocky movement skills and he just tore his ACL after only one year of NFL play. I’m leaning “no” on whether he’ll bounce back and look like a starting LT again.

  2. I like this hire. Eric Washington staying on staff, I guess as DL coach. The team says he will still have the DC title but Rivera is calling defensive plays on game day. I think we still need a new LB coach.

We have a Leonard Fournette who is our only offensive playmaker worth anything though. We have proven this year that our team does “diddly poo, offensively” (thank you Jim Mora) when we can’t run the ball with Fournette.

Like we literally only get 175-200 total offensive yards without that. So we should be investing in our OL by any means possible becuase it is vital to us having ANY SUCCESS AT ALL. If we can’t run we can’t NFL team. Period.

Let alone, we will be drafting a QB soon and it’s time to give him an actual good offense so we don’t totally fuck his development up like we did the last two QB.

So you mean you want to get a new OL coach right before getting your QB so that your OL coach can be hired away by the time you actually use that QB?

The Texans window IMO is literally: Next year and the year after, and that's it. After that we're probably in deep shit. This is not a sustainable team at all due to defensive injuries and the short prime of a mobile non-Russell Wilson QB (ESPECIALLY if that QB can't develop into a pocket passer due to how shitty the o-line is).

Besides Leonard Fournette is only on the field for like 6 games anyway, idk if a new OL coach automatically makes those 6 games wins. Investing in him being your offense is not smart and this is not new knowlege, just about everyone on earth has been saying this.

Our best offensive lineman as a whole was Kendall Lamm, who is a backup.

All our problems point to OL coaching. All the Jags problems point towards shitty offensive team building.

  13. So I guess Eric Washington will be a fake DC lol

I think he meant Sam Mills Jr is the LB coach. Not DL.

You and everyone else is literally only saying that based on this year though. He missed a pretty normal three games the year before. While unfortunate, missing 6 games to a nagging hamstring injury that got reaggravated isn’t a rare thing in the NFL.

The suspension really was a bigger concern, I hope he has learned that fighting in a game isn’t worth it and he should NEVER leave the bench for an on field conflict. That was immature as hell and he could be charged for assault for that.

It’s wait and see, either outcome could happen...

but one healthy year reverses the whole narrative and then he’s suddenly a bellcow that carries our team into scoring range and sustainable drives. If he can make it through 2019 this year becomes water under the bridge for him.

His last fully healthy year was his freshman year of college when he wasn't starting every game, I don't care how "possible" it is for him to have a healthy year: I'll believe it when I see it, but until then I don't think it's worth investing in as your entire offensive gameplan.

I’m not saying don’t try to also improve our passing game. What im saying is, if you know that’s the only threat your offense can present to the defense RIGHT NOW, it’s a good starting point and you should be focusing on making it more sustainable.

We should be building a diverse offensive attack, but the best way to do that right now is to keep the defense honest in the running game, and get the opponent focused on stopping Fournette. Our QB will have a much easier time developing with less defensive pressure and attention on them.

Improving the OL, both talent and coaching, seems like the most efficient way to make our offense potent somehow while we spend the next two years rebuilding our passing attack. It sets us up to dictate the strategy and tempo of games, if our blocking is so good that opponents have to get out of their identity / comfort zone and take risks blitzing to stop Fournette.

And we don't need to keep defenses honest in the running game when our QB is taking...and I'll say it goddamn again...SIXTY TWO sacks in a season (good for 5th most ALL TIME)...because our run game isn't "honest" and our offensive line is trash?

I just don't get why you think the Jaguars need offensive line coaching more than the Texans. You're trying to talk around your team's strengths and weaknesses and are ignoring the fact that WE HAVE THE WORST LINE OF ALL TIME, AND THEY'RE ALL STARTERS.

I normally agree with you a lot but you're ignoring hard facts and making arguments that aren't attacking the point: The Texans DO need it more. We need it more than just about every team in the league.

I have no sympathy for the Eagles wanting that OL coach, a year after winning a fucking super bowl and a year where they damn near beat the Saints in the dome

I haven’t been arguing that the Texans had a better line than the Jaguars.

What I’ve been arguing is that we need a good OL to win (or do anything at all offensively) more than you guys, I mean CLEARLY. Y’all went 11-5 against a tough schedule with the 32nd ranked OL. Meanwhile we only ever play well if Fournette goes off.

Yes you dealt with an even worse OL and yet you’re still a way better offense than us despite that. We need our OL to be great to even access our bread-and-butter identity, to even call the plays that we are supposed to be good at lol.

I mean don’t you think you just need more OL talent too? That’s where I keep getting hung up.

In our case we have enough talent to turn things around with proper coordination. We HAVE invested a high pick on a talented OT and a lot of money in our talented LG and C as of late, we just haven’t gotten an opportunity to gel them all together. In your case I don’t think that even Mike Munchak could make Davenport or Rankin decent blockers.
