It just hit me that Green Bay has 2 1st rounders. With nobody behind Adams, the emergence of Aaron Jones, and Rodgers probably having a narrower window...that might be the perfect destination. Could June 1 cut Jimmy Graham if they dont think he'll turn it around to free up the space.

Hot Take: Cole Beasley should be an off-season priority for the Colts.

Also, today is a real strong argument against ever paying a RB any money. CJ Anderson and Damien Williams, making basically the vet min, doing more than Gurley and Elliot overall.

Eh I think that’s nonsense personally. DAL & LAR’s running threats are why they got here in the first place. Making the defense first account for the starting RB makes life a lot easier for QB, which in turn makes it easier for the backup to run when they sub him in -

for example, if Gurley ain’t out there, teams are focused on Goff, not CJ. The Cowboys spent all week game planning for Gurley so I think it was smart the Rams threw them off with a lot of CJ carries. He runs differently and the Cowboys were not prepared to have to watch for him repeatedly. That does not automatically mean that CJ is good and the Rams would be fine with just him.

It’s all about putting pressure on the opposing gameplan. Even if they do manage to stop Gurley / Zeke, you force them to commit so much to this part of the game plan, that moving the ball in other ways becomes easier. A team selling out to stop the run becomes very vulnerable if your offense is competent in other areas. It also limits their playbook because half their plays might be vulnerable to a big run if the back is really talented.

An example of this: You might like calling dense zone coverage plays like cover 6 or a “cloud” zone against Rodgers to stop the pass, but do that against Gurley and he could take it to the house, cause the play drops 7 defenders and spreads the field out so much. Hence, Goff doesn’t have to face nearly as many dense and confusing looks on passing plays.

I think it’s important to have at least one playmaker the other team is afraid of. I guarantee you Williams and CJ wouldnt do jack shit if they were the primary backs and the opposing team game planned for them instead. Goff and Dak likely put up much much worse numbers this year too. It absolutely is not just about the stats the RB is putting up, their role is to make the defense choose between over-playing the run and allowing aggressive passes, or giving up easy yards to one of the best ballcarriers in the league.

Also maybe I wouldn’t say this for the Chiefs but I rewatched a lot of Rams running plays in slow motion, their offensive line is fucking amazing and did most the work for CJ. Honestly. Whitworth, Saffold, and Sullivan are all phenomenal run blockers who can both turn & shovel guys at the line, and take great angles / locate defenders confidently when blocking in space.

Also the Rams running scheme is amazing
