I had an NHL game for GameCube randomly and I never had any idea what I was doing. Was also convinced that offsides penalties were random

I'm actually gonna try that soon, hopefully it's not that hard. It seems fun, though.

Yea, I agree. I just think some people judge it way more with advanced than actually watching. You can do a little bit of both without overdoing it.

Make sure to get a racket that’s in decent shape, if you don’t want to buy a new one

I stopped watching baseball in part because I felt like I couldn’t have an educated conversation about it because I don’t feel like reading a book on sabermetrics.

I played varsity tennis in high school, Id like to think I’m pretty good even if my record wasn’t. I’m super out of shape now though

Now that I think about, if we had to explain what a sport is to someone who had never seen it before, it I think baseball might be the hardest to understand from like a "what is the objective of this game" because at least in football it's like, they have to get from one end of the field to another, and in basketball, hockey, and soccer it is put ball/puck in hoop/net

Baseball, it's, we need to move these people around the diamond, base by base, by either a person hitting the ball in the field of play, or the ball getting past the catcher, etc..

Well not really. I’m saying that we can study what coaches & quarterbacks do. However, at the pro level everyone has seen so much trial and error and been beat already so many ways, that this gameplan is narrowed down so much already, from the WAY BIGGER list of things NOT to do. That’s the side of it we can’t see, how many ways you can fuck up that the coaches are already avoiding and accounting for.

Without experience coaching you aren’t gonna be aware of how many ways you can fuck up drawing up plays haha. For example, the blocker went at a 60 degree angle rather than a 45 degree angle, and because of that, nose tackles in 46 / 4-3 “under” looks blow up the play before that blocker can pull across. Something that basic can make a great play totally useless.

So yeah there’s a ton of variables and I’m not suggesting we could strategize our own teams, I’m just suggesting we can at least learn and understand how teams are doing it.

Try to take a lesson, not doing anything properly you will hurt yourself. When I started I had no clue on how to hit a tennis ball.

    great point.

the other "big 3" of the 4 are all pretty much "go in that direction and try to score" where as baseball is, like you said, more exotic in the set up of what is happening and where people are trying to go and why

Of course we know what a foul is, it's "any kind of contact whatsoever"

The best thing about the Kitchens hire is that it gives us the best chance to retain Bob Wylie.

Yeah i dont think advanced sabermetric knowledge is paramount to understanding the basic principles of baseball. The shift is pretty easy explainable as well. “He hits it more there so they defend that area more when he’s up.”

Explaining the wilpons though good luck.

I was just saying how even the people commentating the game don't understand or know all the rules of the game. And these are the hardcore, this is your job, people.

It's actually why I like Harden, because everyone can get these tacky fouls and only Harden does it and it pisses people off

The NBA should be less tacky about contact, not Harden

I don't think fans know all that much, especially compared to professional coaches and assistant coaches in the league. We get the benefit of seeing plays happen and being able to review what did or didn't work, understand strategies, etc...

These guys are doing the same thing, understanding more, and then creating modified or new strategies based off so many intricate things that I'm positive we don't even see or fully understand why or how something happens.
