If Aikman is, why not?

 

Every time I see / hear about Aikman’s stats I realize he got in simply because of the 3 wins.

Pretty sure he never threw more than 23 TD passes in a season. I know it was a different era, but that seems very low. And that team had some great weapons.

Eli:

Eli also has the "off the page" stat of being an Iron Man and starting every game for a long time up until last year.

 

Yea, looking back at Aikman, its incredible how average/below average he was. He got carried by those star studded teams. Jimmy Johnson built an incredible team. I feel like I remember more Aikman to Irving TDs than what actually happened.

 

now look at Joe Namath

 

Namath had just about the same as Aikman (slightly better TDs), but has 1,000 less pass attempts. lol

 

can't find Aikman's full playoff stats, so their Super Bowl stats:

Aikman (3 games)
56-80 70% comp, 5 TD, 1 INT, 689 yards

Manning (2 games)
49-74, 66% comp, 3 TD, 1 INT, 551 yards

and Eli will forever remembered for the Tyree, Manningham and Burress throws. i can't remember a memorable play by Aikman in any of those Super Bowls.

obviously different eras and styles of play and offensive efficiencies, but just noting some things between possibly the "worst' HoF QB with 2 rings and the most up in the air QB still playing with 2 rings.

 

originally was going to say, "wow! Aikman has 1,000 more yards?!" but it's 4 more games so that would be an average of 250 which isn't crazy in today's game but probably was back then, especially considering most of his games were played with Smith running the ball.

he had his best year, completion comp wise, this year surprisingly enough (66%) (and his fourth most passing yards this year) and lowest INT's in a decade.

 

Don’t think Eli is “up in the air” I think he’s a lock. He’s a good media guy and they eat that shit up

 

if i had to choose i'd probably say i was a, "maybe 2nd or 3rd try" guy, but after looking at some of his stats, knowing what he's done, knowing who his family is, the market he plays in, his Iron Man streak, the team he beat to win 42, yeah he'll definitely get in. maybe 1st ballot depending who is all available.
