teams like the Colts and Jets should just offer like $30 million guaranteed for 1 year deals for the best free agents

theres no way you'll be able to spend all your cap space on some of these turds

 

I thought we'd be able to re-sign some of our turds, but they don't deserve big money either...

 

Oh nah I love the touchdown rule haha. If a team gets close to the goal line that defense has got to be PERFECT to prevent a score. I love how much of a statement a goal line stand is. Likewise, I love seeing players make absurd dives and contort their bodies all sideways to score a TD between two dudes that you thought was gonna be impossible.

Making it all about the ball creates better highlights

 

I love that slow motion replay, you see the TIP of the ball cross the plane, leaping out of the couch with your buddies “THAT IS A TOUCHDOWN. THAT IS A TOUCHDOWN.” I love that barely, by millimeters stuff.

 

Bet you don't love it as much when they score on you though

 

Also when players play to make the ball cross the line it's easier for players to fumble which is more fun

 

Yeah I don’t. Part of the game haha. That’s how we lost to the Steelers on 4th and goal from inside the 1 after giving up multiple penalties.

Worth it because we watch football for the drama it inspires, you can’t act like you like something until it happens to you. We all suck it up when this cruelly nitpicky sport smites us.

The NFL is such a horribly officiated league. It’s full of convoluted rules:

-inconsistent logically with other rules (DPI v OPI, still tacking penalties onto kickoffs after enacting rules to decrease the importance of kickoffs)
-exist solely to manipulate the game for entertainment (a FG isn’t good enough on the first OT drive but is on the third?? 1st score wins or Play the period out)
-inconsistent rule enforcement (if there’s a turnover, play it out, why risk getting it wrong when it’s reviewed otherwise? you should be able to review absolutely anything that can be seen on replay. if you win 3 challenges, give em a 4th bc the refs are now demonstrably bad).
-differential enforcement at the end of the game (no coaches challenge under 2 minutes/booth reviews, new penalties like 10 second runoffs)
-excessive safety measures (roughing the kicker once the dudes already in the air - I feel better about this one when comparing it to tackles in soccer where you accept the risk that if you miss, it’s a foul, but the optics from a competitive standpoint are terrible)


I get a lot of them “need” to exist because it’s just a structurally weird game that presents a lot of awkward situations, or would make the game take forever otherwise, or but it still makes the results feel manipulated. That said, differential enforcement at the end of the game is inexcusable.

Do you disagree or was I not clear?
The rules changed bc it’s easier to score a FG and it was seen as not fair that you can pick up a few dozen yards and win right away, right? That hasn’t changed if both teams score a FG on their first drive. Conversely, why should a team not get to answer a TD on the first drive if it can answer a FG? It would make more sense to either play an additional period to its normal end, but they chose what I think is the least logical option.

 

Just need the Chargers to beat the Ravens and for the Steelers to beat the Saints in a 42-35 type game due to fantasy football implications.
