Ryan yes because of injuries. Rodgers I don't think is a fluke. He is the exception to the rule though because he very nearly single-handedly carries that team. There's only so much you can do though.

 

I meaaaaan you also liked Cousins that free agent class and we both liked Carr until his flaws became more obvious

It’s okay to learn new trends without trying to claim you knew ahead of time

 

I haven’t taken the time to look to see how many teams have a QB on a max contract vs not and who is in playoff contention, but those lists are so biased towards whenever the QB was up for a new contract. Of course there’s not a strong correlation between team success and the time pretty good to very good QBs were up for a new contract

I just think the main problem is the wrong QBs are getting the biggest contracts (except Rodgers)

Would I pay 28M AAV for Alex Smith or Cousins? Noooo. Would I pay that for DeShaun Watson or Carson Wentz when their extension came up? If they managed to avoid further injury issues, yes absolutely I’d pay that.

If I have Patrick Mahomes I’m expecting him to ask for at LEAST Rodgers contract and probably more if he has multiple seasons like this. And I’m hiring a great DC who can coach up rookies, cause Id be making space to afford Mahomes, and i know I can’t afford to hoard veteran defensive talent.

Not escalating. I just agree with both sides - while I think you should pay your guy if he’s REAL GOOD, too many desperate teams still pay him if he isn’t
