and like, even when you compare Ramsey to the other recent greats like Jets Revis, Seahawks Sherman, Ronde Barber, early Patrick Peterson, Champ Bailey -

they all might have been a bit better than Ramsey in coverage (Ramsey still only in his 3rd year, he could certainly get better at playing zone).

But Bailey is the only one that can compare with Ramsey's run defense skills.

Like a WR with a blocking assignment better be READY because Ramsey will fucking smack you and knock you on the ground, and then he will go solo tackle the runningback despite being smaller. I've even seen the dude use his length to set the edge against a blocking TE on some occasions. Cornerbacks just don't do that generally.

I agree with this, though not everything in football relates back to Bill and Tom lol.

But it's also fair to say the reason they're playing pound the ball and elite D is their coaching. Who decided Fournette is incapable of doing anything other than running up the middle? Who decided that screens just don't exist. Who decided that Bortles should commit to the pocket like it's his wife of 95 years? Those are all coaching decisions and they're bad ones.

Here's when I decided that the Titans Jags game wasn't even real life and that I should stop even being mad about such a ridiculous game:

When Derrick Henry juked out Jalen Ramsey and then outran him in a full sprint

I was like, "okay. Nope. Done. That's it. That's my breaking point" hahaha. I see Ramsey blow up way too many running plays for me to even take that shit seriously. Could not believe that happened.

Henry is actually pretty fucking fast hahaha. You never get to see it because he runs like a baby, but at least on that play I would rate his SPEED stat at least a Madden 93.

I could be wrong, but I think they’re mostly management decisions. I don’t think a new head coach or OC would deviate from that plan much unless Coughlin gets booted

lol my hashtag was very much #FireEVERYONE. Coughlin should be outta the league where he can haunt me no longer.

The best part about this is the Jags are going to bounce back into the playoffs next year, beat only the Patriots, and then lose embarrassingly

I mean he is right that we could be using Fournette much more creatively and could have applied Bortles strengths outside the pocket and still been a running / defense team.

The fact that the Jags drafted a RB 4th overall and are now desperately working as hard as they can to shorten his career is weird to me. 20+ hard inside rushes. Never try to get him out into any space. Just slam around on 3-yard gains all day.

I don’t disagree in theory but do you think this would be a major improvement with Flowers and O Shag Hennessy as two of your primary exterior blockers?

Makes sense, the other CBS games all feature a team likely picking in the top 5 in the 2019 NFL Draft.

I just don’t get it. You like everyone that has a good track record as a coach except Tom Coughlin lol

Like, you love Rivera but hate Coughlin. *whispers* Coughlin is a Rivera that has actually WON his SuperBowl runs and can call effective pass-heavy games sometimes when necessary

I think doing it anyway to keep the defense honest would have had much better results, than shrinking our offense and making it predictable becuase we are afraid to ask our reserve players to step up

You should have all 53 players prepared at all times to run the gameplan you want to run that week in case their number is called upon. If your backups aren’t prepared a coach also has to take that repsonsibility

Coughlin is in charge. Rivera would not be in charge of personnel. Also, Coughlin's track record is massively overrated. He's good but he's 72. What are we really gaining by hiring a 72 year old coach who peaked 10 years ago when he had a borderline HOF QB in his prime?

    @whitenblue88

Like, Fournette is really good, he can handle himself if he has to deal with a few poor blocks in space. At least on outside runs and open space passes you’re giving him a chance to dodge the guys... he has much less wiggle room the way he’s been used (and he STILL finds a way to shovel out consistent 9-12 yard chunks of yards). We should have continued to run toss plays and screens despite our shitty injured line, knowing his rate of success breaking away from the first 1-2 tacklers is pretty good.

We almost treat him like he’s a slow interior bruiser we drafted in the third round, totally ignoring the explosive athleticism and big play potential that made us pick him so early to begin with. We run him like Brandon Jacobs or LeGarrette Blount.

Likewise, Bortles is always better when he moves freely. His precision really suffers when he’s asked to do things quickly from the pocket, he’s just never going to be consistent and methodical in that way. Like Dak Prescott; he’d rather be able to dodge a guy and throw a sidearm sometimes and they should have let him, he probably would’ve converted more third downs at least.
