Y’all complaining about 3-loss teams being considered must’ve really hated watching the 9-7 giants win the Super Bowl. Oh, you didn’t? Because the game was really good so you don’t remember them being shitty and mediocre all year? So the argument is less about team quality and more about not changing things simply for the sake of inertia? Ah, okay.
Here’s the problem, @CarpetElf, the casual football fan doesn’t give a fuck about a team like UCF. The casual football fan cares about the top 15 most popular teams which means a 4 team playoff is more than enough. Most fans don’t look at it as 4 out of 130 make it. Most fans look at it as if 4 out of 10 teams make it.
Well first off, actually no. I was not a fan of the giants winning... and i was not a fan of the average cardinals winning the world series. And second, I've covered this. It's what makes college football unique. In my eyes the playoffs start in September and to me that's awesome. I like college basktballs system...Ilike i like college football systems..I love love love mlbs system...and I haaaate the nba. Also. Hey I'm down with expanding to 12 like the nfl! 6 or 12 is fine with me.
Maybe the revenue from a CFP bid would’ve given them the cash to match Minnesota’s AAV for Fleck instead of offering him the same raw cash offer spread over twice the years.
Expand to 12. Make opening round game home sites, then the final 8 could all be various bowls. And then yeah sure, conf champions get auto bids. Bama, Clemson, Notre Dame, Oklahoma with byes Penn state (12) @ Ohio State (5) LSU (11) @ UCF (6) Florida (10) @ Georgia (7) Michigan (9) @ Washington (8) That seems fun. Not against that.
in this case to me, it does. Having the playoffs start in September is extremely exciting and makes all the games must watch from day 1. Not sure what else more I have to say.
Also if they ever reach a point where they split off the power 5 conferences into their own world and let the rest of FBS be on their own with a playoff I’ll be ecstatic. Tired of the separate but equal bullshit that happens within the sport.
because at least 12, you keep the incentive of being the best with a bye. That's all I'm looking for. You brought up the NFL, and yeah, okay if you really want to expand past 6, then lets do it NFL style with 12. While in the NFL every game isn't MUST MUST MUST WIN, it can be if you want a bye or homefield (incentive)
Smell ya later PJ. Excited to see what’s in store now. Aside from the obvious next few years of being an absolute dumpster fire of course...
The NFL had a memorable championship with a team with a bad record, so clearly I didn’t think through my opinions about the NCAA playoffs, you’re so right. But in all seriousness, I prefer a playoff system (in general) that finds the balance between adding more high-quality, meaningful games, while still crowning the best team in the sport. The argument for putting a 4 team playoff in place made sense to avoid situations like this year if Bama wins and you have to pick only 2 of the 3 undefeated teams for a title game, but 8 is about the point where it’s really hard to make an argument for some of those lower seeded teams being the best in football even if they win out. Washington or Michigan isn’t a better team than Alabama even if Bama has a bad game in a 3 game stretch. That 3 loss PAC-12 champ is still going to play in the freaking Rose Bowl and I will still watch and enjoy that. It’s not like we have a shortage of postseason college football.
I agree let’s adopt the NFL mode. 37.5% of teams make the playoffs. Thank you for agreeing to a 48 team college football playoff.
