I mean Washington isn't good enough to win the National Championship with Jake Browning at QB, I've long said that but they have three losses, all on the road by a combined 13 points. @ Auburn: 5pts (bonehead offensive play calling in the 4th quarter) @ Oregon: 3pts (missed FG with time expiring, lost in OT) @ Cal: 2 pts (Browning pulled, backup immediately comes in and throws a pick six, they lose 12-10). UW is literally two plays away from being in the playoff. Of course, I am okay with them not being there and getting plungered by Bama again. UW will be ready to compete with these teams in about two years the way they are recruiting. So long as Chris Petersen stays, which he will. Give me 8 teams.
Just let the top 4 get byes, the 2 winners face the bottom 2 of the top 4 and then the top 2 play the same number of games against the best 2 of those. This is ridiculous.
The PAC 12 might have the worst teams/coaches compared to the other major divisions. Peterson and maybe whittingham, other than that it's a total crapshoot. I guess chip Kelly should get another year or two before he's deemed bad.
Why not just fix the regular season though rather than creating a bad playoff system to do it for you
The top 64 have byes. The top 32 have two byes. The top 16 have three byes. The top 8 have four byes. The top 4 have five byes. The top two never play again. I've eliminated Alabama and Clemson from football. You're all welcome.
we could have a march madness football tournament and those two would be the only two that would matter, still.
Washington just needs to get a new bagman like Bama has in Tosh Lupoi. ...and yes, I realize Tosh was at UW during the Sark era.
i don’t think the Pac is the worst conference but if you think they’re on the level of SEC > ACC/B1G idk what to tell you
I'd put PAC-12 on the same level as the ACC, yeah. Not SEC or Big Ten though. Seriously take a look at the ACC. You take Clemson out and the best team BY FAR is Syracuse.
It's weird because I both prefer having an 8 team playoffs - AND prefer the idea of just going back to having no playoffs at all - over having a 4 team playoff
The problem is the Pac-12 top to bottom eats itself as their teams 1-12 is just as good as most of the other conferences in the P5....except Oregon State. The other conferences are incredibly TOP heavy and therefore are generally thought of as a better conference. I mean the B10 is Michigan/Ohio State and I guess Penn State....then what? Slop. ACC is literally just Clemson and then a bunch of feeder squads. Big 12 is Oklahoma and now Texas who is back on the rise. SEC is good....so Ill concede there. But in the Pac-12 North, each team was 7-4 or better except Oregon State, who sucks.....and the Pac-12 is down right now considering UCLA/USC are down. Neither will be down for much longer.
With all that being said, I am rooting for tOSU to get into the playoff because if Washington wins on Friday and goes to the Rose Bowl, I'd much rather face Michigan. Washington is recruiting at their highest level in the Petersen era right now. They currently have a Bama/Clemson-esque DL class verbally committed. They're probably two more years away from being in that top tier conversation. But RIGHT NOW, tOSU would smash UW if they played in the Rose Bowl. UW just doesn't have the beef or the speed to compete with them. Michigan, on the other hand, I'd give UW a fighting shot against them with their defense.
I'm just holding out for a hat-trick of great Rose Bowls. Whatever teams we need to get to that level of game for a third year in a row is what I want.
Well I don't think you're going to see another 48-45 game regardless of whether its Washington/Utah and Ohio State/Michigan.
How does this work...if Northwestern upsets Ohio State (not happening), does Michigan get the Rose Bowl then by record or would Northwestern get it for winning the conference? I've read both ways....
