More playoffs = more football, which = good More playoffs = more chances to pretend Bama isnt gonna win it anyway, which = good
130+ teams. Open up the playoffs or close down the league. Talking about how a two loss team makes things irrelevant like we dont have 70 or so below .500
Like why would you want a system that allows for the possibility of Washington or Utah ending as national champions this year
because that's fun and awesome. why would you want a system that guarantees one of the two same teams win every year?
But really I feel like the only people who enjoy 4 team playoffs are people with teams consistently in the top 4, or SEC fans
I’m just in team “the less playoffs the better” (Good) bowls are a fun thing that college does and you’re basically just re-purposing those and not actually adding any good games But then you’re getting rid of good late season games because why would you try in a big late season game if you’re Alabama and are definitely in the playoffs All so that the 3-loss Washington/Utah winner gets a shot at the title The sport is just worse with big playoffs
Top 8 are in. Period. This should be true of all sports. Maybe we go one step further. Top 10 gets in and we do like College Basketbal. 7 plays 10. 8 plays 9. Winners advance to the playoffs. The best eight should make it. And if your top two teams are that much better than the other 128 that you literally cannot functionally expand the playoffs to include four more teams, then it's the sport itself that needs fixing. If anything four teams is just gonna make the lack of parity worse.
But when you play 12 games, there’s a pretty clear gap between the #1 and #8 teams. Ohio St/Michigan was basically an unofficial playoff game, so why would you want to include #7 Michigan after they got whooped? And Alabama/Georgia should basically be a playoff game too, so why would you want that loser in too? That’s half of your new field.
There's a clear gap between #1 and #3. Part of that is due to the fact that the window for winning is non-existent for nearly the entire league. We're looking at it wrong by looking at what it would be this year. Think about what it would be in three or four years after schools are able to legitimately pitch a chance at winning.
But sure I agree that there’s no reason to have 120 teams in the FBS if most of them don’t matter. Cut the FBS in half and create a playoff system with that bottom group.
I don’t think it’d make that big of a difference in recruiting. Alabama and Clemson are still near the top and some combination of Texas, Ohio St, Michigan, UGA, LSU, USC, Oklahoma, etc are right there with them with a couple trendy names moving up and down those rankings, but people will still want to go to those big name schools with the obnoxious facilities.
