I wouldn’t want him to be HC right now. But taking a slight backseat as OC could be good for him going forward.
by "context" do you mean the earlier discussion about how no one in the big-12 plays defense? looking at the league this season (i don't care enough to look at all the defenses he's overseen), they've been pretty middle of the pack, whether it's PPG, generating turnovers, sacks, etc. in yards per game they are second to last, but oklahoma is the team behind them.
I mean controlling for variables that things like points per game or yards per game don’t account for. I’m not at a computer now but whenever I get back to one I’ll find the data.
Yeah, I’m with you. UNC was in a good spot to make a splash considering very few power 5 teams fired their coach. It was probably the best job out there. But I understand why they went with Brown for now. I’d argue it’s a high-ish floor but limited ceiling with him. Just get some stability for the program and get it in the right direction. Then make a splash.
I mean he can coach offense all day. I was specifically speaking to the point someone made about maybe him taking over for Mack brown in a few years.
Ugh I say it every year but I would absolutely hate it if they did 8 6...I say it every year... 6 is the perfect number.
it will be 8 to satisfy everyone - every power 5 conference is represented and you still have wiggle room for 3 at-large bids
I want their to be an incentive for Alabama and Clemson to win every game though and I think 6 helps clean up situations like... 3 1 loss teams for 1 spot stuff. And makes it somewhat more possible for the ucf of the world to make it. I dont need the sec champ game to be irrelevant and I'm not into conf champ getting autobids cause i dont need pitt and northwestern and Utah to be in the playoffs
I can see that but my favorite thing about college football is that every single game matters and i dont want to lose that. If we had 6 ucf would be in it. That's pretty cool. If we had 8... is Michigan still in? Just made that michigan/osu game pretty irrelevant dont ya think
No I don’t think it was made irrelevant at all This notion that every game wouldn’t matter is ridiculous - all the games would still matter - controlling your destiny would make the games still matter Michigan-OSU is still a relevant game even with a 8 team playoff because if OSU loses they won’t be one of the 8!!!! If we had 8 teams this year (assuming that the higher ranked teams win their conference title games for the sake of this example) you’d have a playoff of 1. Alabama (SEC champ) vs 8. Washington (Pac-12 champ) 2. Clemson (ACC champ) vs 7. UCF (at large bid) 3. Notre Dame (at large bid) vs 6. Georgia (at large bid) 4. Oklahoma (Big 12 champ) vs 5. Ohio State (Big 10 champ) How is that not more appealing than whatever four team playoff we get this year?
Why does Georgia make it ahead of Michigan? And what's wrong with... Alabama, Clemson get a bye. Rewarding the top two teams for winning all their games. Notre Dame vs UCF Oklahoma vs Ohio State. I mean, i'm not crying for 3 loss Washington to not make the playoffs. With 8, you're giving Washington just as much of a chance to be champion as Alabama and I think that's crazy.
Why is that crazy? That’s literally how every single postseason in college and professional sports work
Well first off, that's what makes college football unique. They actually put emphasis on the regular season. To me, that's awesome. It's awesome that Florida state can be OUT! in week 1. You think expanding to 8 doesn't change that, but for the elite's, it does. I'm not interested in what makes me like college football so much just so Washington can get in. I'm okay with expanding it slightly more just in case we get a 1 loss OU/1 loss Ohio state/2 years in a row UCF situation. And secondly, yeah, one of the drawbacks of march madness is that it makes games in November/December between the elites kinda lame and unwatchable....at least for me. Those big time games between Duke and Kansas and Kentucky in November? Yeah, those don't really interest me. They're all going to make it and losses aren't going to hurt them, so it's really just a showcase of talent and a glorified practice. And I absolutely hate the nba because of its playoff system.
Texas Tech and the eternal struggle to play defense: Part II That's the article about Kliff's Texas Tech defenses. To continue that table: 2016 Defensive S&P (rankings): 125th 2017 Defensive S&P (rankings): 88th 2018 Defensive S&P (rankings): 91st This also comes with very poor Havoc rankings (just TFL+Force Fumbles+pass breakups / total defensive plays) for both the front 7 and defensive backs and TTU/Kingsbury has struggled to build a good defense at all.
Domo is an enigma that, even after all of these years posting on the same fuckin' message boards as him, I cannot figure out.
i like sports that put emphasis on the regular season and no sport does that more than college football....and i appreciate that.
the very obvious reason people don’t like this model is pretty likely this year: we could very easily end up with three of the auto-bid playoff teams having a combined 12 losses. and then you’re potentially leaving out three teams that had much, much better seasons. personally, i don’t really care about that. i also don’t really care how many teams are in - as soon as it’s 8, people are going to complain for 12 and 16.
