I mean, when you beat a team that sucks the last 3 years and you beat them again... it's a big deal lol
i was gonna say, "why the fuck are the Buckeyes on prime time against fucking Purdue" and then i saw the score, smiled like a cheshire cat, and said, "put the Buckeyes on prime time every week if this happens".
My days of significant investment in college football are probably done for good, but I'll be damned if seeing Ohio State (especially now) get dumpstered on isn't one of the more satisfying things to witness in sports.
I watched 6 minutes of college football. And all 6 were the last 6 of the Purdue game. Once I saw the score I immediately turned on the game lol
So, I saw the something tonight. Something new. The call was new to me, anyways. Checkout the ODU v WKU game. WKU was lined up for a final field goal attempt with 0 seconds on the clock. Not sure why, I couldn't hear the explanation in the bar. Anyways, WKU's kicker was short and ODU had a returner back and he returned it to the 10ish yard line of WKU. Time had expired. But there was a flag on the play... face mask on the offense... somewhere there was a facemask on the return. I did not know that would mean that ODU would get to have another play... game cannot end on a defensive play, but I didn't know it couldn't end on an offensive play either, if they had a turnover. ODU goes on to kick the game winning field goal.
Probably not right but my thought is once ODU had possession of the ball that makes WKU the defense so if they had a penalty called on them, then as we know / like you said, game can’t end on a defensive penalty which would be why they got another play?
So the news this morning is that Herbert is likely coming back for his senior season....all I can think about is:
He's QB1 in a laughably bad draft class. Top 3 pick shoe-in. He gains absolutely nothing to come back. I know he's like a 4.3 student and all that jazz but his ticket has been punched. Why risk that to injury or something?
I mean....I’d play for Oakland with the Top 3 slot money. I’m sure Matt Barkley wished he’d done the same when he was a Top 5 pick after his Junior year but came back and ended up with a dud Senior year and falling to the fourth round and basically clinging on to an NFL clipboard ever since.
He’s obviously about team and education which is great but he has literally nothing to gain and everything to lose
Herbie back + top 5 recruiting class (could end up #1) + another year of Mario coaching up the line oh boy
Talk about the potential for injury/hurting his stock or whatever, Kid was barely recruited out of Sheldon HS, I don't think the possibility of playing in the NFL ever even occurred to him before a year and a half ago. I honestly won't be the least bit surprised if he chooses to come back and finish his degree + get to play with his brother. Worst case take out a healthy insurance policy
Junior Seasons Matt Barkley 69.1% Comp Rate, 3528 yds 41TDs (2x Rushing TDs)/7INT Justin Herbert 61.8% Comp Rate, 1883 yds 20TDs (2x Rushing TDs)/5INT* of note, 13 of Herbert's TDs came in his first three games against BGSU, Portland State, and San Jose State---a combined 4-18 thus far. Herbert is a good QB and has NFL tools and if he's being looked at as the Top QB in this class while having the benefit of a soft schedule at putting up roughly 70% of his TDs against that competition, he'd be silly not to go and get his money. Also interesting is the 2019 Oregon football schedule doesn't have quite as soft of a landing as this year does since they open the season in Arlington against Auburn and have to travel to Stanford, Washington, USC. Major roll of the dice....not to mention the 2019 QB Class is a whole lot better than the 2018.
Herbert has had incredibly below average receivers, Royce didn't even play when he started his 1st season so he had no running game
