I like how Chicago has still not officially been eliminated from playoff contention yet. Only the poor Suns have.

In all seriousness, I fully expect the Cavs to compete again for the 21-22 year. Figure we get a Top 5 pick and a pick in the 20s this summer and continue to watch Cedi, Sexton, Nance and Zizic grow with Love and then you add in some super huge trade chips like JR, Clarkson, Tristan, Knight, Henson, Delly and you're going to get some picks out of those expiring deals as well. Likely get another top 10 pick in 2020 and then you have quite a bit of money going into summer of 2020 for free agents and team should be ready to compete for 20-21.

Also, when this team is healthy, they're actually fun to watch. 5-2 since Love returned from injury (in games that he's played).

JR is just going to get cut. No one is going to pay $16 million for him and, by cutting him, the Cavs only have $3.87 million dead cap from his contract next year.

Otherwise, I'm not getting that amped up about the Cavs yet. They're 5-2 with wins over the Knicks (twice), Suns, Grizzlies and Magic. Tristan or Clarkson are the only guys who could possibly net an okay pick. The rest are just well-paid role players that are mostly used to take on an okay player with a big salary a team wants to drop. (Unless you add picks.)

There's still a ton in flux on their future too. If they just let everyone go and/or take on one-year deals for next season, they're still looking at $51.8 million for Sexton/Nance/Love/Zizic plus ~$15-16 million for 2019 1sts/2020 1st. That puts them at an estimated $67 million for the 2020-21 season and about $49 million in cap space, which I estimate as $116 million via the trends over the last few years. That's quite a lot for free agency, but they'd also be dealing with Osman as a restricted FA and six open roster spots. Even then, who knows who they'll be able to reel in to coach the franchise and they couldn't even get impactful free agents even when we had one of the historically best players in the game. Plus, Dan Gilbert. I'm certainly hoping for the best, but I'm not anticipating everything to go right for them.
