One aspect of the whole Jordan vs. LeBron argument that's always seemed kind of funny to me is LeBron's decision to wear the same number as Jordan (and Dr. J), and to sign with the same shoe company that Jordan did. Those things don't automatically swing the argument, of course, but I feel they do somewhat lessen LeBron's ultimate mark on things. LeBron will always be associated with 23 and Nike, too, but they'll never be uniquely his.

 

I think it would be really hard for LeBron to ever reach MJ's cultural magnitude. Just depends how much you factor that into GOAT convos

 

Nike threw the most money at him. I think it was $100 million when he was 18. And now it’s a lifetime deal worth roughly a billion dollars or some crazy shit like that.

Adidas had a similar offer if not more but I think the CEO pulled out because he didn’t know if LeBron would have the impact to justify $100 million (lol I’m sure that keeps him up)

 

I like the MJ = GOAT and LeBron = BOAT take

One on one, LeBron’s winning. Five MJs vs five LeBrons, the LeBrons are winning. No one’s ever been as big and strong and fast and durable and skilled as LeBron all at the same time. Jordan’s “will to win” isn’t helping him there. LeBron is just a better basketball player. But MJ’s career and impact on the game is mythical at this point so it’s hard to argue against

 

I like this.

I feel like people get really caught up in accolades. LeBron is the BEST individual basketball player we’ve ever seen and maybe will ever see. He has played against better opposition throughout his career too imo.

Jordan didn’t always play against scrubs but...some of those dudes wouldn’t be in the league if you put them in this era lol they might not even be in the gleague

 

This is retroactively going to be such a pointless conversation when we watch LeBron walk the Oscars red carpet for Space Jam 2 and its 12 nominations.

 

I don't really think they need to be compared at this point. Both are amazing basketball players and probably the two best to ever play the game.

And we'll never have an answer to the question regardless. Just everyone else's opinion
