Jimmy has leverage to an extent. In order to be a UFA next year he has to report to the team and either be on the active roster or be placed on the injured reserve. Reporting to the team is one hurdle, but given the CBA, he can't just stay home and hold out like in the NFL. Not adhering to the CBA for this season would delay the final season of his contract. This is pretty much a last ditch effort to be traded before the regular season. If no trade is completed, he has to either suck it up and play or come up with an injury or various injuries to keep himself sidelined for the season. The smart move would be to keep your end down and play the last season out and sign somewhere with cap space. And it would probably help the trade market as well.
