I don't like the shot clock resetting to 14 instead of 24 after an offensive rebound. Why reward (can't think of a better word) the defense for not getting the rebound? Players work hard to get offensive rebounds, they should get the full shot clock for the reward.

i don’t think it’s rewarding the defense as much as it is stripping back the reward to the offense a bit. resetting to 24 for catching a ball always seemed a bit off, especially late in the game. i’d be interested in seeing this.

I mean, the clock resets to 24 ANY time the ball hits the rim, no matter who grabs the rebound. This also brings up more potential issues like the ball hitting the rim and then a scramble for the rebound where it may take 2-3 seconds for any player to actually gain possession of the ball. So what happens in that 2 to 3 seconds, is the shot clock at 24 or at 14? And if it goes to 24 but an offensive player ends up with the ball, how do they just switch it to 14 after the 2 to 3 seconds?

maybe it’s been too long since basketball and my memory is totally shot but it’s not like if the ball touches the rim and there’s a loose ball for, idk, 5 seconds that the team gets the new possession with 19 seconds then currently. so how would this be different?

Because instead of having 19 seconds, you now have 9 seconds. Not much of a reward for fighting for an offensive rebound. But the point of the scenario I was explaining was...if the defense comes up with it in your scenario then yes, the clock would be at 19, but if the offense comes up with it, then the clock should be at 9. But what is the clock at during the 5 seconds of scramble? 24 or 14? Will there be a stoppage in play to reset the clock depending on who gets the ball in that instance? Because there will be a clock change depending on who comes up with the ball.

The shot clock resets when it hits the rim and doesn’t start again until a team gains possession, so there could be a full minute of scramble and the offense would still get 14-seconds

I don’t thunk we’ll see much of an issue with that until late game situations. Most of the time teams put it back up or dish it out for a quick 3 majority of the time

This feels like something they should test out in the D-League for a season.

  11. I’m excited for more reviews of when posession is gained and what the clock should be at because someone else has to decide another thing. Fun.

The only game reforms I want to see are eliminating goaltending once the ball has hit the rim and FIBA style timeouts.

I love the idea of having shot clock down to 14 instead of 24

  16. I don't know what problem it's solving.

The issue I see with the game is too many time outs and clock stoppages. A really shitty charge/block determination. And inconsistent calls. Not that teams getting an offensive rebound have an extra ten seconds or not.

I feel like the intent is to speed up the game, but I think it would probably just lead to sloppier play and shitty/rushed shots.
