I didn't expect that, either. Probably a similar situation to Horford where he's electing to take a smaller number next year in exchange for more years on it. He gets more guaranteed money long-term, and Sacramento gets a little more space this summer. Win-win.

 

I mean it could have worked for sure if they didn't extend Bledsoe and are able to trade Snell/Ersan

dunno if you'd be able to keep Brogdon but D-Lo Middleton Giannis Brook would be a fun start

I keep coming back to "What if Kyrie and Hayward didn't get hurt."

A) Celtics realize the chemistry doesn't mesh and have a year of control on Kyrie to have him exit in a more team friendly way, i.e. trade

B) The young guns don't make it to the ECF by themselves and maybe there isn't so much resentment towards Kyrie trying to show them the way. Maybe without that resentment the chemistry meshes better and maybe it works out after all

C) It fails because it was destined to fail.

 

Kyrie Irivng will be miserable wherever he goes. That's just who Kyrie Irving is.

 

That seems like a really dumb move by Harrison, but I guess you would rather take long term stability over short term.

He also claimed that he wanted to stay in Boston, and that he wanted to get his number retired there. Though, the latter was for a Nike ad, so it's possible they just paid him to say that. At this point I think it's safe to assume anything he says is either a lie from the start, or something he'll walk back in a few months. Maybe ghosting people like he doesn't want a second date really is the best option.

 

Kyrie will retire. He'll settle down, get married, and have a child. His wife tells him that their family should move out of New York to better raise their new child. Kyrie ghosts his family and returns to the NBA.
