Doesn’t he have a small guarantee this year if they just release him?

 

His salary for next season is $15.3M but he's only guaranteed $3M if he's released by June 30. So the Cavs can use that as a major trade chip to basically take another team's $15.3M salaried player while the team who trades for the contract can release JR and open up $12M in cap space.

 

Hornets have a trade exception. I could definitely see them taking Ersan and the rights to whoever the Bucks draft.
