My Wikipedia understanding at a glance (lol...) is that this only applies if it happens in the off-season or during a season. So since this technically happened in the 2018-19 season, I’m not sure if they’ll get that?

Disabled Player Exception. Allows a team that is over the cap to acquire a replacement for a disabled player who will be out for either the remainder of that season (for in-season injuries/deaths) or the next season (if the disability occurs during the offseason).

Depending on what happens in free agency, Warriors might struggle to make the playoffs this season.

This Lakers team plus AD still misses the playoffs, Davis and late career Lebron are both injury concerns and the team is not constructed well enough around to play at the highest levels. There’d have to be massive changes with a lot of quality shooters brought in to make the kind of difference they’d need to seriously compete.

I think even without KD and Klay (potentially if he can't come back in time) the Warriors can still make it into the playoffs. They still have Steph and are still well coached and good coaching can do a lot.

WCF are a different story though and I'm sure they'd see a much earlier exit.

Memories are nice, but that's all they are. Prestigious

I worry about Steph’s ankle in a full season where he would have to shoulder basically the entire load

That should be an awesome view BUT you don’t think they’ll close your office? Pretty much everything in center city philly was closed for the day

You think having both AD and LBJ would mean they'd miss the playoffs? I'm sorry, but I disagree. Obviously if they both get injured then I'd agree, but you can't just assume that's gonna happen especially when Lebron has been healthy his whole career minus last season. Davis has played 60+ games every season except for last season and played 75 the 2 previous seasons.

All I know is these next few weeks are gonna be crazy with the draft and free agency. I love the NBA.

I love how last off-season with only LeBron, the lakers were a “lock” to be a top 3 seed and favorites to meet The Warriors in the WCF. Now they are missing the playoffs even if they get AD...

In fairness I have no clue where the top 3 seed talk came from. I get that LeBron's easily the best player in the league and can make up for being on bad teams but the Lakers were built so badly for LeBron's skills compared to how the Cavs were built.

Not trying to be rude to anyone who believed that because I mean anything can happen and it's more fun to root for things you want to happen or root for chaos but yeah I did not get that. Lakers missing the playoffs with LeBron and AD is more reasonable IMO.

Missing time with injuries is not a guarantee, but if you’re focused on star power any injury is going to really fuck you up.

More importantly tho is team construction, last season the lakers were a bunch of young guys, a bunch of uhhhh, not good one year pick ups, and Lebron. They did not have a well thought out put together team around Lebron, and they will give up some of their good pieces in any trade for Davis. Can they put together a working system around two great players? Yeah they could. Could they run out a team with two great players, a couple remaining young guys and cheap free agency filler that doesn’t make any sense together? Yeah that’s a very likely possibility especially with what this front office has done previously. They’ve had a bad run for years with building a competent roster, I don’t have faith that they know what to do besides trying to add another all star player.

For the record, I said Lakers with Lebron would miss the playoffs before the season started, which I was right about. West is too good.

I agree I thought the top 3 talk was way overboard if only taking into account how the team was constructed. For the record I thought they would be a playoff team but not a serious contender (4-7 seed range). I just think with AD they would easily be a playoff team, but again probably not contending for the title unless other pieces fell into place.

I don’t think it’s impossible that they miss the playoffs, because The west is just so damn deep, but I would definitely pencil them in

Honestly, I haven't heard anything about office shutdowns for the morning/day. I work in the financial district so there are a lot of banks in the area that may have restrictions on closures. That would make a lot of sense though given the fact there will be hundreds of thousands of people in the area and the general level of chaos/excitement.

In Toronto, there is no precedent for this haha.

No idea on seeding but I’d assume at this time the following teams make it to the playoffs this coming year:

    - Blazers
    - Rockets
    - Nuggets
    - Thunder
    - Clippers
    - Jazz
    - Warriors
    - Spurs

I’m probably most iffy on the last two for very different reasons, but if they did that’s the 8 spots.

Although I don’t know how common it would be to have all the same teams make the playoffs two years in a row so history would probably say one or two of these teams miss out.

The three owners/representation for the Raptors who he was with all made it by safe and sound on their way to the same stage where Ujiri was headed. Nothing like being blocked out by security from in an event you were involved in planning.

Meanwhile, Kyle Lowry’s kids managed to evade security.

Trying to vilify the Raptors ain’t going to work. Well, sometimes Serge flies off the handle to quickly, but don’t think that goes unpunished.

Why did the security pick him out? I don’t see Larry Tannebaum’s credentials hanging around his neck? He’s a long time NBA executive, who has been in the western conference and has been there two previous games. I sure hope it has nothing to do with picking a certain 1 guy out of 4 to request credentials.

Jeremy Lin has mentioned how he’s had issues with security in other arenas allowing him on the team bus because he doesn’t look similar to the other athletes getting on the bus.

Sure hope Oracle can confirm they ID’d every persons credentials who entered the floor, and it was strictly Ujiri who refused to present his documentation before renters g the court (to receive the Larry O’Brien trophy).

He’s definitely got to treat authority with respect, but respect needs to happen on both sides.

I was getting ready to get offended that the wolves weren’t included in your list, then I sat and thought about it, and I can’t really argue with any of your teams.

Not to mention that the Lakers, Mavs, pelicans, and Kings are also out. Which depending on the way things bounce, I wouldn’t be shocked to see any of those 4 in.

Fuck I wish they would just move us to the East

The Warriors can still apply for it. I was wrong though about another team signing him and being able to (although I've seen conflicting reports)

Report: Kevin Durant to miss entire 2019-20 season

If he re-signs with the Warriors, they’d get a disabled-player exception if an NBA-appointed doctor rules Durant is “substantially more likely than not” to remain out through June 15, 2020. It seems unlikely Durant would meet that standard, but the league is typically lenient with granting disabled-player exceptions. The exception – which would be worth the same amount as the non-taxpayer mid-level exception (projected to be about $9 million) – would come in quite handy for a team needing better depth.

If Durant signs elsewhere, his new team would not be eligible for a disabled-player exception, because he suffered the injury prior to joining the team.
