Not a Caps fan but the Penguins are overtaking the Bruins as my most hated team in the league. Hope the Caps come back and take this series.

 

I swear the hot takes are bad right now.

 

Also Ovie slashing Crosby in the back of the head before he was cross checked just kinda went unnoticed.

 

It's like clockwork. I'm not happy about this one at all my hatred for tha caps is un fucking real

 

Pens need to bounce back in game 4. Wanted that one so bad.

 

If you watched that game and came away hating the penguins more then I don't know what to say to you. I'm a biased opinion, but objectively the Caps were fucking way dirtier and just all around goonish that game.

 

I started coaching/teaching hockey this past year and the number of high schoolers who do exactly what Niskanen did when someone skates near them is scary. Putting your stick up to crosscheck someone on "accident" is how other players tell them to defend themselves & it's so dangerous. The refs never do anything about it either because everyone wears full-shields/cages but you can still take a blow to the head from that. Also really easy to hurt someone or take out all of their teeth when you get to the higher leagues.

 

It's more than just tonight for me.

Can't really say I expected any discipline for Niskanen. Oh well.

 

Damn Crosby got BUCKED. I really hope he can get back quick.

 

It was Oveckin's slash to the shoulder/neck of Crosby that ended with his hitting him in the head that caused Crosby to fall. It was a McSorley like swing. No need for a stick swing so high. I know he was trying to back check which is different, but his intent to take a swing at him was there. If you aim for the shoulder and end up with the head it's still too high to begin with since he's not playing the puck. Ovechkin has always had a free pass.

Niskanen was opportunistic. He saw who was was falling and took a shot. I think he hit the head on purpose. I don't think there was any thought to use the stick, it just happened to be where he caught him. You could tell earlier in the series he was targeting Crosby to try and take him out.

I'm sick of star players being targeted. Big hits, accidents, collisions happen. This attacking the other teams best players with sticks and running hard into goalies to knock them out of the game stuff is so hard to watch. All teams has a guy or two or four who do it.

If a Washington Cup win is to really mean anything, they needed to beat a Pitt team head to head, not take out the head of the best player in the league while being down 2-0 to get yourself back in the series.

Watched the replay a couple times and Niskanen's hit, while not exactly malicious, is just stupid and reckless

 

like I've seen twice these past few days where penguins media people accuse of the capitals of intentional injuring people wth no sources at all.

 

Ovi did what happens almost every game and went for a slash on a player in a good scoring position, unfortunately it hit Crosby's head after it bounced off his arm and calling it malicious/McSorley like is pretty misleading in my opinion as those plays happen every game. Though, I can see the argument for a slashing/high stick call 100%. Niskanen was reckless but I also don't think in the seconds that Crosby was falling that he lined up a headshot. He put up his hands/stick in an unsafe fashion and it just so happened Crosby was falling. If that same play happens and Crosby is completely upright that's not even a crosscheck.

I can say 100% that I'd be pretty mad if something like this happened to a Canes player in a similar situation. But as a neutral party I think the 5 and a misconduct was sufficient.

 

Game misconduct was overboard imo

But I guess there's a rule that if a player is injured on a play that's called a penalty the call is upgraded to a misconduct? I read that but no clue if it's accurate.

Only thing we need now is for Pittsburgh fans to call the police like Montreal fans did on Chara.

 

No way he comes back this series/year. Fuck.
