The NHL has been making huge strides towards being a more inclusive and progressive league so no punishment seams rather odd, even if it is playoffs.

 

Rowney is the fucking man. Glad he got some recognition for his hard work. He brings its 100% every shift every game.

 

It's always tough coming off a blow out. The team that got blown out has an axe to grind and the team that killed it doesn't take the other team seriously. I think the pens can take it though.

 

The punishment wasn't going to do shit either way because Getzlaf thinks he did nothing wrong and is more upset that people got angry. The league does a lot of talk about how progressive they are & loves to pat themselves on the back but they haven't done enough with educating their players because this kind of stuff gets said on the ice all the time. The only message they sent was "don't get caught on camera." Maybe a suspension would have been a better PR move but I doubt it would have changed his behavior/attitude. He probably would have appealed it based on his reaction to the fine.

 

It seems like this deep into the playoffs the league is reluctant to hand out suspensions, especially to a star player. I get why they leave them in there, but don't sprinkle sugar on that "inclusive and progressive" bullshit and tell me that it's candy.
