Back when he was making like popish-folkish music we were always hanging out because of Mike, he was always the life of the party around here hahaha. It's awesome to hear he's doing successful with country because I know that's what he always wanted to do, I need to listen to his stuff.
That's such a weird way to say it "he was always the life of the party" makes it sound like I'm eulogizing him
ALBUM OF THE YEAR: Dirty Projectors — “Dirty Projectors” Oso Oso — “The Yunahon Mixtape” Emperor X — “Oversleepers International” Mac Demarco — “This Old Dog” The Menzingers — “After The Party” Creeper — “Eternity, In Your Arms” The Afghan Whigs — “In Spades” Converge — “Jane Live” Sampha — “Process” Forest Swords — “Compassion” HONORABLE MENTIONS Jay Som — “Everybody Works” Sorority Noise — “You're Not As ______ As You Think” Father John Misty — “Pure Comedy” Mount Eerie — “A Crow Looked At Me” Thundercat — “Drunk”
Random list of stuff I've enjoyed so far from this year in no particular order with random thoughts in parenthesis: Incendiary - "Thousand Mile Stare" (Best metallic hxc I've heard in a LONG WHILE) Full of Hell - "Trumpeting Ecstasy" (Their best album yet?) The Menzingers - "After the Party" (Return to form after Rented World) Concealed Blade - "LP" (The sample at the beginning of the album sets the tone for this entire thing. An absolute barnburner) Captain, We're Sinking - "The King of No Man" (It's grown on me a bit, but it's still a disappointment overall. Looking back there's no way they could have topped TFIC) Mouse on the Keys - "Out of Body" (Best background noise release of the year so far, IMO) football, etc. - "Corner" (Everything about this album works for me for some reason...) Charly Bliss - "Guppy" (So pissed I missed them when they came through the city earlier this year. I'm surprised I enjoyed this as much as I did) Memoriam - "For The Fallen" (Bolt Thrower-lite. If they had a second guitarist to help with their low-end, this would probably be my favorite metal album of the year so far) Darkest Hour - "The Godless Prophets and Migrant Flora" (Best Darkest Hour album since Deliver Us) Cryptic Void - "Into the Desert Temple" (GRINDCORE!) Converge - "Jane Live" (This makes me so sad that I wasn't album to be at Roadburn last year - this live release sounds incredible) Looking for an Answer - "Dios Carne" (SPANISH GRINDCORE!) Power Trip - "Nightmare Logic" (Riffs for days) Necrot - "Blood Offerings" (Old-school death metal with the a nice punk tinge. Stoked to see them live next month) Cloud Rat/Moloch split LP (One of the best active grind bands on one side and an awesome sludge discovery on the other) Cloud Rat/Disrotted split LP (Primarily including this for Cloud Rat's contribution. It's an 18 minute long grind epic that just works so, so well. Pallbearer - "Heartless" (Still below Sorrow and Extinction, but better than Foundations of Burden. Regardless, their discography continues to get better). Khemmis/Spirit Adrift split 7" (Doom metal covers of old folk standards. Need I say more?) Sheer Mag - "Compilation LP" (Probably cheating since it's a compilation LP, but this was how I discovered them. So excited for the full-length next month) I'm probably missing a few things since this is off the top of my head, but it's been a good year for music so far.

It's a genuinely uplifting album in the year 2017 that is very catchy and features an extremely talented lead singer
i still don't think i've gotten a full listen to arca in yet it's not the easiest listen doesn't take down its quality but i know at least for my own ranking listenability is a huge part of it, i know everyone ranks things in different ways
But for what it's worth Misterwives was my mid year #3 which explains why it's so high on that list. ha
Also Casey neglects to mention The xx was also tied for 24th on that list because he's a huge piece of shit revisionist historian.
