Fairly good batch. Some great picks, a couple shit ones, a fair amount of mainstream ones.

Things that make me happy:

- Liking all 5 best new artist noms
- The whole "Pop Solo Performance" category
- Ariana being represented
- The nom for Willie Nelson's Gershwin album
- Ton of noms for Coloring Book and The Life of Pablo
- "Heathens" and "Closer" showing up
- Beyonce for BEST ROCK SONG!
- Baroness
- 22, a Million
- BJ the Chicago Kid getting some big noms
- Ology showing up
- Country solo performance and country album categories (minus Keith Urban)
- Lots of Maren Morris love
_ Noms for the new Avett Brothers in Americana


Things that blow:
- Mike Posner nom
- No Lori McKenna in country album
- The whole Best Rock Album category
- Lack of hip-hop in the top writing categories
- Who the fuck is Lukas Graham?

 

Also, Beyonce is finally getting her Album of the Year Grammy, huh?

 

Pleasantly surprised to see Weezer get a nom

 

Still Brazy should have been nominated over DJ Meme

Besides Drake, Blink the only thing I'm actively rooting against

 

*they are a band (technically), and a very terrible one at that.

 

Oh man they play that song on the radio here all the time, it's so bad and weird

 

man I get that like that 21 Pilots album was hugely successful and everything but wow are they completely irredeemable for me in every sense

 

Also surprisingly pleased with Best New Artist.

Not that surprised they put Lori McKenna in Americana instead of Country. I can't complain, since she got four nominations.

 

I keep forgetting that BJ the Chicago Kid album came out this year.

 

It's so good too.

 

Jack White still manages to find his way into the Grammy noms without putting a new record out

 

I'm sorry how is "Hotline Bling" eligible? I get that being tacked on an album that came out this year would explain that, but it's been commercially available since summer 2015 yeah?

 

they do weird shit all the time. it is probably a quirk of being attached to an album released in 2016.

D.R.A.M. winning for Broccoli in the same category as Hotline Bling would be such justice. Prolly won't happen tho
