    Live Concerts:
    February
02/08 - Every Time I Die, Knocked Loose, Harm's Way and Eternal Sleep - Shaka's Live (Virginia Beach, VA)
    - Sold out show with no barricade. Sound was not so good. First two bands shared stage equipment and their mixes were mud... things started sounding better for the other two bands. Crowd was energetic, especially for Knocked Loose and ETID. Got to do a stage dive during the first "drag the lake" part in Floater and that pretty much made my night. (+)

    March
03/30 - Four Year Strong, Can't Swim, Sleep On It, Light Years and Flight Club - The Canal Club (Richmond, VA)
    - First time at this venue. Small place with good sound. About a 2 hour drive each way but a lot of tours I like hit this spot so I can definitely see me revisiting. Flight Club were okay. They were filming a video at the show so there were a few guys with steadi-cams running around. They played a cover of Johnny B Good... kids had chops but they didn't quite fit with the rest of the line-up. Light Years sounded great but kept their performance pretty low key. Sleep On It & Can't Swim both did a great job. FYS played a quick and energetic set. Rise Or Die Trying in full plus 6 other songs. Got a setlist after the show. Picked up a T-shirt and Explains It All vinyl. Expected a bigger crowd but enjoyed the smaller venue. Someone said this date sold out in the Tour Forum but it didn't seem packed to me. (++)

    June
06/24 - In Her Own Words, Story Untold, Last Night's Ghost, Tell Tale - The Canal Club (Richmond, VA) - I really, really wanted to see IHOW live. I've been a big fan for years (since Brand New Me when they were essentially an ADTR rip-off). This show was pretty far away for me to go to but the price made it worth it. This show was $10+fees... cheapest show I've been to in a LOOONG time. By the time my wife and I had arrived 2-3 of the locals had already played... we caught the end of Tell Tale's set and they were very much what I expected; TSSF-esque pop-punk that felt empty with a single guitar. They had a good stage presence and really made an effort to connect with the crowd both on and off the stage. As I was leaving the venue I grabbed a free 2-song CD from their vocalist. Pretty good overall but the release was dominated by a screaming guest spot on the first song that didn't fit the sound they actually have live... to be fair, they did say that their set was all new material plus this song (that also featured the bleh guest spot live). Last Night's Ghost was meh... a bunch of kids (probably still in high school) playing so-so indie/emo. Their members parents flooded the viewing area during their set - taking pictures and the like... good for them. I wish my parents came to see my numerous bands. Regardless, after their set (where I NEVER heard their name... like it was another practice for their friends) a fair chunk of the crowd left. This made me really sad for the touring bands knowing that a large portion of the audience was locals and their families... so much that during Story Untold's set (who were leaps and bounds better sounding than the openers) I went towards the stage to show some support, but they began playing a Justin Beiber cover so I promptly returned to the bar for a drink. After Story Untold left the stage I wandered up to the barrier and waited for IHOW. Had a killer time during their set although I was disappointed their lead guitar was played by a backing track through a VOX combo amp. Their rhythm fill in did a great job and the band themselves were hella-tight. They are my favorite up-and-coming pop-punk bands and I'm excited to see them again. I just hope they come closer to me next time! (+)

    July
07/11 - Van's Warped Tour (Virginia Beach, VA)
    - Unfortunately, I woke up unable to walk. I pulled a muscle in my foot the DAY before and was supposed to work the following day. Rather than spend the day at Warped Tour on crutches (and then possibly still be hurt and unable to work during the following days) I decided to sell my tickets on Craigslist and take it easy. Not seeing Candiria was a HUGE DISAPPOINTMENT. I pray that they do ANY touring in my area after the summer ends. I was so sad that I couldn't attend.

07/16 - Darkest Hour, Havok, Jesus Piece, +TBA - Shaka's Live (Virginia Beach, VA) - Jesus Piece just cancelled out of no where... no communication via social media from any of the bands about them dropping off. That was disappointing and caused them to really space out the rest of the bill... long waits between bands. Havok tore the fucking house down! They were so good. The highlight of the entire night was during the third "HEY! HEY! HEY! HEY!" fist-pumping chant of their set. After the initial "HEY!"s their vocalist started chanting "B! B! B! B! - C! C! C! C!" and then the crowd took over ALL THE WAY to the end of the alphabet. On Z a ripping solo started up as their vocalist let out a screaching "ALPHABET MOTHERFUCKER!!!" - it was awesome. Darkest Hour's set was about half new material and half fan favorites. Their new album is one of my favorite metal albums of the year (so far) so I was glad to hear them rip through the new jams. Crowd was relatively small for the venue (lowest turnout I've ever seen there) so the "pit" was really just an open floor with 5-10 guys trying to make circle pits happen. DH sounded great and they all seemed really into the set (sans the bass player, he seemed like he was just going through the motions... or just really stoned). (*)

    August
08/23 - Matchbox 20, Counting Crows, Rivers And Rust - Veterans United Home Loans Amphitheater (Virginia Beach, VA)
    - I went to this show under the impression that Counting Crows was headlining. I saw them last summer with Rob Thomas (of M20) opening... when my wife and I arrived we got some beverages and then went to our seats. After a short time Counting Crows started! It was so early! They played a great set as always. About 80% of the setlist was the same as last year but they changed the order around and mixed in a fair number of songs I haven't heard from them live yet. There was a bit of stage banter (both of the band meeting and the ruin-a-song-call-out-with-front-row-guy type) which was super entertaining. When they closed out their set my wife and I headed for the gate... I'm not much for Matchbox 20 so we dipped. (+)

    October
10/19 - Four Year Strong, Seaway, Like Pacific, Greyscale, Life Lessons - Shaka's Live (Virginia Beach, VA)
    - Unfortunately, I missed Life Lessons. I was pumped to see them but apparently the show started WHEN doors opened (I got there about 45 minutes after that). Greyscale did a nice job. They played a couple old tunes but mostly stuff from their new album. The mix was not very good that night, particularly for vocals. This issue plagued every band (but FYS) and made the vocals so buried in the mix that you couldn't hear them for whole verses at a time. Like Pacfic had a lot more energy and got the crowd really moving. They played a new song which sounded great! Excited to hear their new album (IIRC, they said it would be out in early 2018). Seaway was... okay. I've never been much of a fan of them but I was surprised by how popular they are. They played about half and half old tunes and songs from Vacation. They all wore Hawiian shirts and their singer wore sunglasses the entire set. Not realizing it was a schtick at first, I thought their singer looked really dumb with sunglasses on. FYS crushed it again. They played 2 different songs than when I caught them on Part 1 of the tour. I got to stagedive during the first "Here at the top of the world" in Maniac (ROD) and the crowd held me up through almost the end of the song! Hope FYS comes by again sometime soon on a regular tour. It was nice to see them twice in one year but I'd like to see a more spread out setlist than another anniversary tour. (+)

10/22 - A Wilhelm Scream, Such Gold, After The Fall, We Were Sharks - Shaka's Live (Virginia Beach, VA) - I didn't know this was an anniversary tour for Career Suicide until the ride to the show. While I love that album, this was my first time FINALLY seeing AWS and I was hoping for a setlist that spanned their catalogue more. So, before even getting to the show I was already kind of bummed... oh well. We Were Sharks were awesome. They SOUNDED so much better than the other opening acts. The band was tight and super grateful for everyone that came early (all 15 of us?). After The Fall were alright. They seemed a little sloppy although their albums have that frantic, loose feel as well. Also, their vocalist had a see-through guitar... I hated just seeing that thing. It reminded me of those old Fernandes guitar ads with like Rob Zombie and Powerman 5000 band members with their transparent guitars with blood in them and other cheesy stuff. Anywhooo... Such Gold were pretty good. They've really had some lineup changes since last time I'd seen them. They played mostly stuff from their newest EP, 2 songs from the first LP and 1 or 2 (don't remember for sure) from their second album. Nothing from the early EPs or Splits which was disappointing but now that their vocalist plays guitar, I can see why they didn't do these older songs. As AWS is about to go on, I'd say there's roughly 50-60 people there. This is including other bands, staff, everybody. Those dudes played like their were 500 people! Smiles on all their faces. They were so grateful that anybody cares and they ripped! Blasted through Career Suicide and then took requests. Since it was such a small show there was a lot of people yelling out songs. They ended up playing Boat Builders and The Rip. Really hope to see AWS again soon and if We Were Sharks comes back through on some other tour, I may go just to catch them again. (+)

  18. I'm going on tour for a week and I need some music to listen to on Spotify while we're driving around. Hit me with full album recommendations. Albums that you can listen to all the way through without skipping a song. Albums that you feel like were "Album of the Year" when they came out. Doesn't have to be newer stuff. It doesn't even have to be any particular genres. I'll sift through some shit and load up my Spotify. HIT ME WIT IT!

The World As We Know it is top notch as well. Shit, all their releases are fantastic... I wish they'd do SOMETHING again. My band played one of the shows that got them on board with Tragic Hero (we were both opening for Alesana, THR's early #1 band to push) and they blew everyone else out of the water. Completely different sound than the rest of the bands on the bill but they were so good. Been a die-hard fan of their recordings ever since. Wish I could've caught them live some time after that.

Yeah, I absolutely love everything they've put out, and I'm pretty disappointed I never got to see them live. So many of their songs are just...flawless and beautiful. I check every few months to see if there's any news of them doing anything, even though it's been, what, seven years now?—just because I love their sound so much. Jealous you got to play with them, that's awesome.
