It's a weird trade for me because by all accounts, he's MAYBE one year away....

Yeah, that's not who I would have expected to part with. Obviously, the CBJ scouts really liked Texier. I also think there is an element of dealing from strength. CBJ has a pretty strong pipeline so I'm not sure where or who Kolesar would have jumped to make the roster any time soon. By all accounts, Texier needs a bit of time overseas. Kolesar probably gets a better opportunity in Vegas, so I get it for both sides.

 

Yeah, you obviously know much more about the CBJ pipeline than I do, I just love Kolesar's game. He reminds me a lot of Wayne Simmonds in that he's a gritty power type forward, not afraid to get in there and get the tough goals. I would have loved Philly nabbing him since he was out there.

Yeah, I enjoyed all of the updates and stat lines that I read on Kolesar. He's been developing really well. I'm just wondering if he was going to get stuck in a numbers crunch with CBJ. You look at the NHL team CBJ ices and it's one of the youngest in the league. Then you look downward at guys like Milano, Abramov, Pierre-Luc Dubois, etc. who haven't made the top club yet. I just can't help but think Kolesar was never going to get past Cleveland in the AHL. If that's a realistic possibility and you can send him to a better situation and get a younger prospect to buy some time, I can totally understand that thought process. It's also the second trade we've made with Vegas. We were the first to agree on the expansion trade (kind of set the market with that), so I like building a good relationship with another team.

Yeah, I just was looking at your prospects and I couldn't find a spot for him either so I see how it makes sense. I would just feel a little underwhelmed by the return. Who knows what the guy you just took will turn into, I just feel like we're going to see KK crack the VKG lineup by 2018-2019 and be a good player.

 

I hope that happens because that would still be a nice notch for our scouts. And by all accounts Kolesar is a good kid too. My guess is that CBJ scouts had a fairly high grade on Texier to give up a solid prospect like Kolesar. We'll see several years out I guess haha. On the surface and in the immediate future, Vegas definitely got the better end of it.
