My step father is an Oilers fan and he's not floored by the deal but Oilers fans have been maligning Eberle's play for a while now and the cap space saved could allow the Oilers to go for someone who brings a stronger game to the table. Or at least that's the idea. It's not the worst deal ever for them but not ideal and could be mutually beneficial if the Oilers are smart with their money.

It is not Hall and Eberle's fault that the Oilers had terrible management and roster construction for years.

 

Great take. I also think that they don't need a player of eberles caliber playing on the top line as mcdavid can pretty much play with anyone like Crosby can. Eberle is too valuable to be playing on the second line also. With this trade they can save 3M of cap space and maybe improve in other areas with that money. One thing that comes to mind that with getting strome on centre along with other centers like mcdavid and draisaitl maybe their next focus is to move RNH which again is too valuable to play on the third line.
