The only way protecting Ennis and not Carrier makes sense to me is if VGK wanted Carrier as part of a deal to not take Linus Ullmark

 

Correct me if I'm wrong, but UFA's should not be listed as "available" for the expansion draft? I thought Vegas had first right to negotiate with FA's but not pick them in the draft?

 

I think they do

but those players are technically still under contract until July 1

 

Well that adds a wrinkle to it then.

Preds website does not match up to leagues. Tons of "available" players according to NHL.com that the Preds say are exempt.

 

I'm sure cap friendly will probably update the Vegas mock draft but dang it makes it even worse to draft because of side deals

 

So I suppose that's how it works.

Let's say if any of you were placed in Vegas GM shoes. Would you focus on trying to build the best defense first or maybe look at a star studded offensive depth?

I'm just assuming Fleury is the starter at this point.

I would just keep the top players everyone wants but otherwise buy the entire draft

 

Not that any of the unprotected Leafs are incredible or surprising but it's kinda dumb that we protected Matt Martin and not Brandon Leipsic. Doubtful LV would have taken Martin if he was unprotected, and we would have more than likely only lost Rychel if Leipsic were protected
