Harsh truth: praise of Nico has more to do with the lack of forwards on the squad than it is praise of his base talent.

 

I don't think thats true whatsoever. The Devils' forward corps should actually be decent this season.

Hall is a borderline star winger
Palmieri is a top line RW
Zacha looks like hes developing into a nice top 6 center
Johansson is a legit top 6 winger
Henrique is a former 30 goal scorer who is a legit middle 6 player

that doesn't even account for Zajac who will be back in a couple months. Plus, I know the preseason stats are meaningless, but Nico was straight dominant at times as an 18 year old. That is impressive.

The forwards should be decent. The defense is what I am worried about.

 

ya I was under the impression devils had an ok top 9 but defense is ???

For anyone unaware (which is hopefully all of you), HFBoards switched servers and got a whole new layout and it looks like a rotting horse's ass.

luckily this preseason Michael Rasmussen is actually looking like a player with a higher ceiling than scouting reports had made everyone believe. if the wings can develop him into a sort of Mantha 2.0 i will be very pleased

You could hope that a scenery change could kick his game back up, but he was hot garbage for the Bruins the last 2 years. Awful trade.

 

Hayes isn't the worst player in the league, but he's in the running for the most useless.

predictions (none will happen):

Toronto wins the atlantic, only them MTL and TBL make the playoffs, OTT misses it, both wildcards from the metro (NYR and Carolina). Philly NJ and NYI go home. NYR fire AV after a first round exit.

Pacific: anaheim edm and SJS make the post season with LA just missing the WC. SJS goes to the conference finals after beating the ducks in 7 and lose to the Preds. Thornton retires.

Central: DAL and CHI for WC only because the Pacific is so weak, they both get knocked out in the first round.

McDavid gonna win the hart again because we need to replace Crosby

Vegas wins the Dahlin pick with the bottom five being vegas, vancouver, colorado, det, and FLA (not in that order).

Duchene never leaves COL but is injured for half the year.

Most improved team is gonna be Carolina.

Pens won't win again this year because it turns out Matt Murray can't do a full regular season and post season.

Jagr stays in the KHL until after the olympics.

Paul Maurice gets fired before the halfway mark, Babcock is an Adams finalist but loses out to some coach who's goalie went on a 15 game tear.

Hischier wins the Calder because Taylor Hall. Clayton Keller is 2nd.

Preds over Tampa. Sure why not.

 

I subscribed to the part where the sharks beat the ducks but unsubscribed when they lost to the Preds and JT retired.

 

-I like the Preds but they just did not get better going into this season. I see a second round bump.

-Here’s one: if the Sharks are out of the playoff picture at the deadline, Thornton goes to the eventual cup winner

-I swear this is not a homer point, but I disagree with the writeups saying that the Bruins got worse over the summer. Bjork with Bergeron and Marchand, will at best gives them a legit running mate to replace Pasta, and at worst won’t be a detriment. Chara, Krug, McAvoy, and Carlo is the most complete top 4 they’ve had since 2013. While I do have concerns about throwing McAvoy to the wolves too early, and Carlo’s play away from Chara, it’s come a long way from 15-16.

-The playoff race in the east, goes without saying, will be fun as hell to watch.

 

The Leafs are gonna be a bubble team again unless something ridiculous happens. If we win the division it's 'cause everyone else shit themselves.

 

That's what I'm thinking...I don't see OTT repeating especially with Karlsson starting on IR. MTL might be able to sustain assuming Price stands on his head but that D isn't getting much better. They improved with Drouin so that might compensate.

TOR on the other hand has now had a full season with this roster which gels super nice. Matthews-Nylander are going to be the next Backstrom-Ovechkin. They're solid enough on net and on D.

I'd really be surprised if they moved beyond the first round though.

 

The only way this can be true is if it's a euphemism. Our defense is still mostly garbage.

Feel pretty confident with that going in to the season. We solidified throughout the entire line up, and I think we’ll make the playoffs assuming all of those additions can stay solid for us.

 

Carolina is in the same boat as Calgary for me. As long as their goaltending is even just decent they make the playoffs
