That is all I said. I never said politics didn't matter. I never said politics shouldn't have a place in sports... I simply asked that, with a new season about to start, that we focus on the actual teams instead of the bullshit outside of it.

My only point was that I don't think someone would completely abandon their team if they went to the White House (or something along those lines) as the Pens are doing. Its all fine and well to say you would on a message board, but I have a hard time believing someone would give up their fandom over that. You can completely disagree with what they are doing or saying but that doesn't mean you have to stop watching your favorite team.

It's tradition to visit the white house so that's what Sid's going to do. Unfortunately he'd probably face a lot of backlash if the team captain was missing from the visit. A lot of his close peers could have voted for Trump who knows. He's probably not down to deal with the distraction of the media and the people he works with. The guy just wants to play hockey and drink Tim Hortons.

 

Brady didn't visit though... you could just make up an excuse.

 

Yeah I guess. Tom's excuse was that it was only a ten day notice before the white house visit and that he already had plans. Sid knows of the visit after he wins the cup end of May. I guess he could call in sick or something lol.

And yeah, I'm not giving up on the Pens because they're doing this. I think any other team would also go through with the visit. But it's super disappointing, especially with the league trying to be more inclusive and then supporting the least inclusive president of at least my lifetime. Really hope some players will bail on the trip, but I don't think they will.

 

So that came up on hockey Twitter alot last night...I mean Thomas got torn a new one for not going and now those same people are demanding the pens abstain. Obviously it's a different administration but I for one feel like an idiot for bashing Thomas. Then again, I didn't think we'd have a lunatic white supremacist as president in 2017.

And if anything he set a great precedent, any nhler who doesn't want to visit trump can just cite thomas.

 

Why Pittsburgh felt the need to release that ridiculous statement now is beyond me. Hockey has such a vanilla, boring culture that I would expect any other team to do the same, though. There's been like, four players who have spoken out over the past year.

 

About 10 USA born players on the Penguins roster. Some of them might dip out. We'll have to wait and see. I can't see Canadian or Russian players bailing on the visit. I would love Kessel if he bailed.

 

It would rule if Phil can reverse his World Cup snub by snubbing Trump. I would love a twitter post of him at some gourmet hot dog place in DC while the rest of the team is in the WH

What's really funny is that historically bettman and the league just do what the NBA does because that's a successful league while the NHL is the laughingstock of sports. Yet on this one the NHL has decided to completely go against the current. Like fucking morons.
