My friend was arguing with me that Vegas will be a really good team this year. I almost laughed in his face.

 

Well, no one has to really tank at least...

 

I remember a ton of people, including some here iirc, saying Vegas would have a good team based on what was available in the expansion draft. And they tanked like really hard. They will have a historically bad team.

 

I was one of those but I didn't think McPhee would actually be so terrible at trading for immediate future

 

I thought McPhee would get a lot more but still be really bad, never thought they'd be good day 1

 

McPhee traded Filip Forsberg for Marty Erat so not much confidence in him lol

 

how many more players do they still need to trade off?

Really hope Tatar doesn't end up on a 1-year deal with Detroit and take off next year. He actually probably deserves a 5x5 deal

Tatar made it clear that he wants no part of arbitration. He also suggested that, if it gets to that point, it would likely be the last contract he negotiates with the Red Wings.

“It’s just a mandatory contract,” Tatar said, after translation. “Unless I agree with Detroit, I’ll go to the court, where they’ll give me a year’s contract. That would probably be my last season in Detroit.”

A one-year contract for Tatar, whether through arbitration or negotiation, would buy the Red Wings time to get him on the ice and producing. And when contenders emerge, a market would begin to build for teams that might be more willing to move a first-rounder once it becomes clear the pick will be closer to the bottom of the first round.

 

I know we're up against the cap, but I can't believe Ken couldn't get Tatar a deal a week or so ago

 

Tatar should've gotten the Nyquist deal.

 

Term is lengthy with the injury issues but overall not bad

 

Yea, I thought he would definitely get that much per year but not 7 years. That kind of screams yikes, especially since he declined last year but who knows.

I think it all depends on how he bounces back. That AAV could end up being a steal.

 

Best case scenario they trade him after a bounce back season for someone worthy of pairing with hedman for once.

 

I doubt he goes back to his 14/15 form but if he gets you 20g/50+p and elevates his game in the playoffs that's a solid deal

 

yeah I said it. Looking at the roster now, it looks pretty bad.

 

I think McPhee is doing the right thing tanking and trading for picks. If the team finishes out of the bottom ten in the next five years something is wrong. And this shouldn't surprise anyone. The 70s caps had like 13 wins their first season. Think the Sens had like 21. What matters more is that they're filling seats and not becoming the new coyotes.

I'm totally fine with the McPhee strategy but I feel like he severely got terrible value for the whole picks/trades.
