I think it's unfair to assume a McDavid extension has too much of an effect on league wide contracts. The guy could have demanded a max contract and no one would've batted an eye. Negotiations were pretty much just Chia trying to convince him to sign for as little as possible.

I just don't think RyJo has nuch bargaining power by going to Poile and pointing to what McD got. Totally different situations.

 

mcdavid also totally try to come as close as he could to 97 because hockey players are weird

 

I definitely thought he was going to go the Crosby route for sure
