I swear the lightning are the team that I could look at the roster and not nearly 3/4 of the names on it.

That's how I am with the Phillies this season. I might not be able to name a guy on the roster. That's one team I'm fine with being fairweather on.

I can name nearly every player off the Dodgers and Sharks but I can name like maybe 5 players at best off the Texans.

I think they're one of the biggest "win now" teams actually.

 

Yeah, that's why they're carrying 8 d men and three are rookies, four if you count point and overpaid an old guy who can't play anymore to mentor them and bring "veteran leadership". They have three prominent players on their team, then you have whatever Tyler Johnson is since he wasn't as good last year after the injury and you have palat who is pretty good. This is vassys first full year as a starter and playing way more games than he's ever played, by far. He hardly played last year. They're probably gonna call up Joseph and maybe one other prospect this season. But sure, win now. I have many, many doubts that they'll be better than last year.

The issue is staying healthy. They've got two elite players (when healthy) tied up through 2021. They've got one of the best young goalie prospects plus a solid back up with Budaj. The Callahan contract isn't great and they've been adding too much age (though I like the players they've added for the most part) but unless Yzerman dies suddenly or loses his ability to be a ridiculously good GM, I can't see an issue other than health. I fully expect Palat/Johnson to re-sign and a long-term deal for Kucherov. In which case they'd be one wing short of franchise pieces across their first and second line.

 

In this cap era, contenders are going to be made up of a top end core, and a bunch of nobodies on ELCs. Pittsburgh and Chicago have been full of names we haven't been familiar with for years. There's no difference between Point/Dotchin, Guentzel/Sheary, Scmaltz/Hartman.

This is probably the first of multiple retools for Tampa. A healthy line up still has Stamkos, Kucherov, Palat, Johnson, Killorn, Hedman, and Stralman. I like their chances of bouncing back.

Edit: Obviously the Girardi signing is dumb, and I'm not sure how much they're expecting out of Kunitz. I still see them comfortably making the playoffs.

 

I'd say Tampa is easily my favorite line up out of all of my teams but I root for almost exclusively shit teams so that doesn't mean much in the end.
