The Bills are the only team in the AFC East that hasn't won a Super Bowl.

That’s absolutely a reach but I have no idea why he didn’t play. Terrible decision to sit him.

 

I remember how stoked I was on Eric Rowe when the Eagles drafted him.

 

I don’t think Rowe or Mills are very good fight me

 

Shit ton of money to spend for gaine (likely unwisely)

Next season will be a blast.

No one thinks Rowe is very good. Mills is good. He may be good for a long time but I don't think he'll ever be more than good.

 

Shout out to Derek Barnett for recovering that fumble.

 

Just feel like I see Mills get beat a lot *shrug* never seen any tape that made me understand what he’s supposedly good at

 

He's a good athlete and a great hype man.

 

He's got the best finger wave in the league !

 

He didn’t have a good SB that much is true

 

Wasn’t even high on him at LSU. He did not make my list of top CB in that draft. Just not physical or tenacious enough to cover anyone close-up. Good athlete but doesn’t have that elite closing speed you need to play consistent off-man coverage either.

Arguably he’s the weak link of the otherwise talented Eagles defense. Not trying to down talk the Eagles after they just knocked off NE... but I literally always think “damn Mills just isn’t good” when I watch them haha. I always look for him to change my mind and he doesn’t.

 

Weird, he was pretty good at LSU. Flawed, but not 7th rounder bad.

I wouldn't call him the weak link at all.

 

Mills isn’t a very good corner. He’s slow.

He’s a physical guy who can cover OK but tends to struggle with middle tier to upper tier guys.

He will take over a safety spot next year, not sure McLeod is back since Sidney Jones will take his job at CB.

He is an A+++++++ hype man, tho.

 

Meh. A zone coverage / off man CB who isn’t a great tackler and doesn’t have top notch closing speed... is never gonna be a player I’m high on.

Jason Verrett. Chris Harris. Marcus Peters is pretty great at it too. That’s how you play off-man coverage. You gotta have stupid fast reaction time and smack the WR in the mouth when the ball gets there.

 

Like KJ said, dude is probably gonna be a safety next year. I'm pretty sure he was graded as a safety by most teams anyway.

I'm also not high on him haha. I just like him and think he's good for the team.

 

I can get on board with Jalen Mills not being a very good corner but saying he isn’t physical is a little wacky.

He’s the most willing tackler this team has had at corner since Sheldon Brown. Schwartz and his silly off-man zone coverage scheme certainly does Mills NO favors but he is serviceable. Much better safety, imo.

 

Eh, maybe it is the off man coverage that makes me think he isn’t physical then.

I just don’t like off man coverage in general. Your CB has to be so explosive and instinctive to make it not a soft defensive call.

It protects CBs from PI, sure. I get the logic behind it for teams with a good front 7 - you’re hoping to create erratic throws, and off-man puts corners in better position to make plays on bad throws. The goal is to increase turnovers and decrease penalties basically.

But only the very best off man corners actually have a low catch rate in the first place. Most teams who try this strategy, just end up allowing too many easy throws and having poor pass defense. What good is avoiding penalties, if you just end up allowing more legitimate yards in the process anyway? (See: Jags second half adjustments against NE lost us the game even faster than if they’d just kept calling press-man and getting iffy PI calls).

Like the kind of teams that are successful with it have to invest so much in CB. Denver with Talib/Harris and Bailey before that... Chargers didn’t get good at pass D until they added Hayward opposite Verrett... Chiefs are still seeking an upgrade from ex-Chief Sean Smith cause he couldn’t play that way like Peters can... etc. Texans tried to replace Bouye with an off-man guy, and they are screwed if Kevin Johnson doesn’t pan out since Joseph is getting older and slower.

 

I’m with you, especially with what the Eagles have at corner. There is zero reason you don’t have Mills/Darby at the line jamming Amendola/Hogan. Instead you give two of the better route runners 5-7 yards of free space to work with and they torched the Eagles.

I don’t get that they made next to zero adjustments. Eagles secondary should be much better next year with Sidney Jones/Ron Darby as the starters with Mills/Jenkins back deep.

They may need to draft a corner for the slot since they’ll probably get priced out of PatRobs range since he had a great year.

Kinda forgot about Rasul Douglas but he’s not a slot guy.
