Is there any real reason why Butler didnt play?

 

There has to be something that happened behind the scenes.

There's absolutely no strategic advantage that's gained by sitting him. That's some serious bullshit by Belichick. Even if you don't want to use him outside, he's still much better matchup in the inside against Agholor and Ertz.

 

And with how emotional Butler was during the opening songs I get the feeling he didn't know he wouldn't be playing on defense until just before the game (although that may be wrong).

And then when Chung went out for awhile I thought he'd come in but nope. Just special teams. I imagine he'll be gone this offseason.

If you would have told me Pats score 30+, Brady throws no picks, throws for over 500 yards, THREE receivers go over 100 yards each and Gronk has two TD catches I would have thought the game would be decided by 2 or 3 scores.

Crazy fun game from start to finish. Very cool to see how great Clement played and Foles was goddamn Joe Montana out there (pick wasn't on him)

I might be reaching here because I hate New England, but I really think this move was Bill Belichick trying to win with a player he acquired from Philly. His arrogance got the best of him finally. I just don't see how benching him as a slot corner is a strategic advantage.

You guys realize that if Bevell and Shanahan made the right choice and ran the football the Patriots* would've lost five straight Super Bowls, right? Luckiest team in all of sports and hopefully that bullshit is over now.

Craziness. In a lot of ways they could be 0-8 in Super Bowls with Brady and Belichick. All the games have been super close / last minute drives. Have a few more balls dropped / caught by the other team and they don't win any of them (which if they lose against the Rams maybe they never even return again two years later, who knows)

Crazy to think about.

 

NFC East first division to have all teams win a Super Bowl, yes? Next closest is AFC/NFC West with 3 out of 4 teams (Chargers) / (Cardinals)
