Can't wait to see what big contract the Jags hand to Bottles next year when he takes them back to the playoffs

 

I’m already nervous about what happens with us at QB now that it doesn’t seem like either FA is coming our way

My gut feeling is that we ain’t drafting Mason Rudolph either... so the best I can hope for is more improvement and a team friendly deal from Bortles... *facepalm*

 

Jags aren't going back to the playoffs next year. But yes, I'm worried about Caldwell showing his ass with Bortles lol.

Also, $30 million for Cousins and Stafford is a bad deal. No team will become elite when crippled by their QB's paycheck. Tom Brady, Russell Wilson, and Aaron Rodgers are the only three QBs that should be asking for that money.

 

Yeah like... at that price?? you better have a QB who is so good, he can still win you games when you have to lose one or two other core players because you can’t afford them anymore

 

For real though, if Bortles improves and we can keep him for $17-21 million then I'm happy. That's a team that competes for a championship annually. The Lions/Jets are not.

They’re paying Smith what he’s “worth” instead of overpaying for Cousins like he’s Rodgers.

True. I've had time to think on it and yeah I think this is actually working out for them.

Rumor has it they might be trying to still sign Cousins to the franchise tag so that they can trade him away for something rather than just letting him walk too.

 

I really don't get the hate on Cousins. He dipped this year, but he had about zero weapons and a pretty awful line. I understand the salary concerns, but, given the right fit, I think he'll be good for a team. We'll see where he ends up, but I don't think it'll be some franchise-destroying move, especially since it won't have to be a trade now.

 

He’s okay, just won’t carry your team, does a lot of stat padding (way too afraid to move the ball down the field consistently and misses tons of reads), and will give you some killer interceptions. He’s perfect for a team like Denver or Jax, just that price point is rough.

Also, to play devil’s advocate...

 

Kirk will have some impressive hot stretches, though, that’s for sure — and it just drives you insane that it’s not his norm. He’s always crap to start a season too.

 

I also think he *might* sign a deal for cheaper with another team than what it would’ve taken WSH to keep him.

 

I think the Skins made a really shitty offer last year at some point, and after that, Kirk was gone. He'll gladly take big time franchise QB tags, but wasnt ever gonna sign long term there after the low ball. Only hope they had was having a JAX like run where they went 12-4 and made the AFC title game and Cousins felt he had to come back to prove something.

Also, since they fired McCloughan, he was the guy that advocated them signing Kirk long term in 2015. Probably would have done that 4/76/44 type deal then if he had full control

 

This is 100% the case. WAS and CLE are the two teams that would have to massively overpay for him. To the tune of like $2-3mil/yr more.

He might take $26-27mil/yr from Denver, whereas CLE would need $30mil minimum.

 

Yeah, I think he does Denver. No point in doing Cleveland, New York, or Arizona.

 

Can anyone tell me who was taken in the 2017 draft after Josh Dobbs was selected that would have been a better selection for the Steelers due to their other needs?

 

Just off a quick glance

a couple of RBs: Marlon Mack, Aaron Jones and a couple of TEs: Kittles, Sprinkle, etc (saves the need for the vance trade)

But, nothing that really jumps off the page, and they took Conner in the 3rd compensatory. Much stronger argument for a trade up (using that Vance Donald future 4th) to get Nicholson or Cohen.
