Also I think we definitely need to fire Nate Hackett, even based on that game alone.

He threw the game basically. There is no excuse or acceptable explanation for an NFL OC being that predictable in ANY game. That is your job that you get paid millions for and the NUMBER ONE GOAL is for the defense NOT to know what you’re doing.

An intentional sabotage of the game literally makes more sense to me, than him just “not realizing” he called an off-tackle run to the left out of shotgun EVERY first down, and a deep shot EVERY second down of the first half.

We weren’t even watching the same game in the second half. The playcalling was creative and diverse in the first half, and then we called the same damn plays on multiple 3 and outs and we let the Pats walk right back into the game.

 

Yeah, I'd sign him next year to literally as much as I possibly can. Like, 4 years, $80 million, but $30 of that is 2018. Basically work the money to where he's cheap when we need to re-sign Ramsey for what will not be cheap.

I agree. Minus the "that game alone" part. He's just not good period.

 

I still kinda can’t believe taking a knee with 50 seconds left. You could still play that situation conservatively and end up in a spot where you could put some points up if things went your way. And if not, you still have a defense that only allowed 3 points before Bill could make halftime adjustments

 

The other Doug did it the right way right before halftime.

We just should have been winning at that point already and I honestly think that criticism is needlessly harsh. Tough throw, tough situation. He missed it but not even by that much, Gilmore barely got the ball.

“Great QBs make that throw” yeah maybe Brady, Rodgers, Wilson, Rivers, Brees. I ain’t betting on anyone else.

 

Fun Fact - Nathaniel Hackett is currently the only OC to coach an AFC team in the playoffs and still have his same job.

Surprised you don’t root for the Patriots with the perfect football you must be used to seeing. Me thinking your criticisms are over-the-top is nothing new.

It wasn't over the top lol. It was a bad throw and that was it haha. I wasn't trying to make a thing of it. You just defended it haha. What a weird reaction.

Also, our schedule next year is much harder than this year and I highly doubt Caldwell/Marrone will make the right calls necessary to further our development next year. The year after we're back in it but next year we're one of the first three out. Like Seattle.

 

Who wins the division if not Jacksonville?

 

Tennessee, Houston or Indy.

 

I’m gonna say it, I think it was a positive game for Bortles. That was one of Bortles most mistake free games and he honestly was far from the reason we lost. I do think criticizing that 4th and 14 is unfair.

If Bortles plays like that next year we will be back in the playoffs certainly. Smart decisions, realistic throws & didn’t try to play beyond himself or try to be a highlight reel, just took what the defense gave him and didn’t disrupt our momentum.

It’s easy to be like, “oh yet another opportunity missed by our sloppy QB...” but this game was not like that at all. He was playing efficiently and then just slightly underthrew the hardest throw he had to make all game.

It’s not an all or nothing thing. Even if Caldwell/Marrone make SOME of the right calls we will be fine.

I just know you’re going to go straight into pessimism mode when Hackett isn’t instantly fired. It’s what we both want but the NFL doesn’t generally do that when the team just doubled their wins.

It was a good game for him, yeah. It's not unfair lol. It was a bad throw lol. Wtf is this "unfair". That's absurd.

It's not pessimism mode lol. Hackett needs to be fired. The NFL not generally doing something smart doesn't mean it's smart.

 

Like sure you get the Pats and the Eagles but you get a dumbed down Tennessee, the rest of the AFCE, and you go from Chargers to Chiefs

Like the way I see it, your division title only bought you going from Chargers to Chiefs and going from Chargers to the Mahomes Chiefs might end up being an improvement too (but it also might mean Mahomes is gonna put up 800 yards)

Normally the 1 seed buys you the Patriots but we already play the AFC East so all of us are playing the Pats. We're also all playing the NFC East. I think your road to the division got easier.

 

An unfair criticism is one that has unreasonable expectations. It was 4th and 14 and our deep option was throwing to a small backup WR against Stephon Gilmore. That wasn’t ever happening.

 

AFC South seems like a crapshoot. Lots of question marks still. Lots of young talent.

 

I just want a healthy Luck vs Watson.

 

@CarpetElf As far as “pessimism mode”, if we don’t fire Hackett I feel almost certain that you’re going to spend the whole season acting like we’ve already missed the playoffs. And it’s going to annoy me while I’m trying to enjoy / be hopeful for more wins.

Isn’t that how our dynamic usually plays out though, anyway?
