I just can’t get on board with Brady as MVP given how we’ve seen them perform without him. Wentz is far more valuable to his team.

That's logic that would never be applied to a player not named Tom Brady lol

I mean, if the Eagles hadn’t looked like shit the past three weeks I would in fact apply the same logic to Wentz.

But the logic doesn't make sense.

Well, I’m taking the award to mean “most valuable”, not “best”.

    Then it's Jimmy G!

Not enough of a sample size, but he’s certainly been more valuable than Brady.

That's just not how that works though haha

Jimmy G has a larger sample size with SF than NE does without Brady

Well if the award were truly about value, I would argue Lebron should have at least a few more MVP awards, though I think the NFL tends to award based more on “valuable.” So maybe it’s an unfair comparison.

Also, most importantly, Brady hasn't missed a game this year so I thoroughly have no idea what you're talking about

Sure, I’m taking past years into account to inform how the Patriots would likely perform without Brady. I don’t think they’d look anything like, for example, the Packers for most of the year or the Eagles for the last three weeks. (Also, the Patriots have won a number of games this year in which Brady didn’t play especially well.)

Peyton Manning should have won it that one year he didn't play in Indy and they went like 2-14 without him. It was like everyone realized he had been playing with a bunch of cardboard cut-outs the whole time.

I think it's hard to argue Gurley has been more valuable for his team given he's playing with a QB that threw 3,800 yards 28 TDs to 7 INTs and with a defense that is top 10 in the NFL. Meanwhile the Pats have the worst defense in the NFL (according to DVOA) and Brady leads the best passing offense in the NFL.

Also, Eagles are 2-1 without Wentz and the only loss was where they rested multiple starters against a fringe playoff team that they held to 6 points.

I don't find it particularly meaningful or illuminating of anything that a team trotting out Dan Orlovsky, who was part of the 0-16 Lions, and Curtis Painter, who never started another game, at QB lost 14 games.

  20. Let's be real, Brady has the league by it's balls. Of course he's going to get it.

Let's be real, if Rodgers was in this situation we wouldn't be having this conversation.

I don’t think that’s really fair to bring up Goff’s play without bringing up the RB committee in New England. We all know that having a good rush attack helps the pass, and vise versa.

i think there's also sometimes a disconnect between what MVP actually means. i think most take it to mean the player most valuable to his respective team, which means you have to consider the rest of the team's assets and playing style. this also basically means it's the most valuable of every team's respective MVP's. the pats do well without brady so under this criteria i don't think he'd deserve it, though as noted above, many leading candidates wouldn't.
i take it to mean the player that, if we could simulate their addition to every other team, would have the highest average benefit to all the teams in the league; i hope that makes sense. under this criteria, i think it pretty much has to be a guy like bell, for the reasons i mentioned in my previous post. I'm biased as a steelers fan, but really I'm just tired of fans/commentators overestimating how much more valuable brady and rodgers are than everyone else. despite joe buck's assertions, rodgers isn't mind-blowingly special enough to carry the packers to the super bowl every year and brady benefits humongously from gronk and bellichick. they can be the most skilled, but they're not necessarily the most valuable. this award is dumb as hell. sorry for the rant lol

Remember when everyone thought New England was crazy for wanting two 1st round picks for Jimmy G.
