Like basically if I’m drafting, I’m not gonna avoid a good USC receiver just because past trends tell me USC receivers underperform.

Every draft class and every case by case scenario is different.

 

What about Nelson? He’s having a fine year in Philly despite looking bad early on. So, shit, that’s actually 4 recent USC receivers who have turned into solid WR2s, who can do a decent job if called on to replace an injured WR1. They all took a couple years to develop (except Juju) but by now they are all solid contributors who get a decent amount of targets.

You seem to be arguing the opposite of what happens. These guys get Overdrafted because they are from USC. I'm not gonna "avoid" them. If everyone tells you Jake Browning is a 1st rounder, it's not avoiding him to pass on him in the 1st. It's just accurately gauging his value.

 

totally an anomaly though. None of the other USC wideouts got drafted in round 1. To me that more so means that Chip Kelly overvalued him because he used to coach against him.

Maybe you think Lee got drafted too high, imo where Lee got drafted isn't too bad considering hes approached 1k yards both of the last two seasons, not a bargain but not a big reach either. Sure, Robinson gives us more than Lee and we drafted him later but that makes Robinson a bargain, not Lee a reach.

You should expect to be getting a borderline WR2/1 if you waited until the second round, you got SURPLUS value if you manage to find a WR1 outside of the first round since that skillset is so highly sought-after.

fair enough, yeah. Saying that USC receivers aren't good is a different thing though, just kind of oversimplifies this point in a way that doesn't accurately represent your opinion.

I definitely do agree that teams overdraft players from good colleges but that doesn't make them worse prospects or non-ideal draft targets. To me that's the team's fault for letting bias cloud their scouting/research. Good GMs don't target players based on college program, you never see the 49ers do that haha. Imo that's probably the main thing I could criticize Dave Caldwell for.

i would think GB would keep Nelson over Cobb. there are countless times i forget he's even on the team / field. he disappears so often and that slot guy is easily replaceable.

 

I think they'll restructure Nelson's contract cuz I feel like he's gonna retire in a year or two anyways and he's Rodgers' guy. Cobb I can live without especially if Montgomery isn't going to play RB anymore he can play in the slot or they can even move Nelson to the slot.

interesting. Imo the defense showed major improvement last year but I haven't been paying attention this year because I'd rather watch a pig roll around in mayonnaise than watch Brett Hundley any more than I have.

 

The defense is actually very bad and not good
