If QBs are getting more, that proves my point. Russell Wilson is paid LESS than Flacco despite more Super Bowl appearances and better performance. Why? Flacco was Super Bowl MVP and a champion. There was leverage teams could use to drive the price down. Stafford breaks that wide open.

 

Also, Sam Bradford, Alex Smith, Tyrod Taylor, Jay Cutler, Jameis Winston, Marcus Mariota, Brian Hoyer, Josh McCown, Blake Bortles.

Those are the starting QBs whose contracts are up in the next two seasons. Winston and Mariota might swing that range but I would still be very surprised if both did. The rest though? Absolutely not.

 

Lol that reminds me of how much Cutler was getting paid from the Bears. There was no leverage there.

Winston will probably get more than Stafford honestly

 

Winston will be six years younger.

 

Stafford needs a better team around him. Good luck doing that with him making 27m per season. Teams are in such weird positions when it comes to paying QBs.

 

Also, if Winston isn't as good as Stafford is now and gets that money, then prepare to have this conversation again lol

This is why im with @CarpetElf on it being a bad contract. Its like the NBA max deal going to guys who are 2nd or 3rd best...at a certain level is having that guy so necessary at the expense of other positions.

It basically becomes a 1st round draft pick...if you miss, you are fucked for years. The Texans missed on Osweiler and had to give up a 2nd rounder to get rid of him. The Ravens functionally missed on Flacco (and should have known), and thats killed their depth for 2 seasons. And unlike a first rounder, you know what you are getting cause these guys have 6-7 seasons under their belt
