McCaffrey is going to be an all-purpose machine

 

I don’t want to rush Watson out there as a starter. I’d rather wait at least 8 games.

 

I think Watson showed that he can be a great QB for us and will also throw picks in the process of getting there. It was a ROUGH opening for him at the start, and even his throws that reached the receivers had some accuracy problems. I saw at least 2 throws that would've been nice YAC gains had Watson not underthrown and made the target adjust. I'm optimistic about the future but not blown away and I definitely know what to expect this rookie season.

 

I'm gonna watch the game again today to take a closer look at everything and figure out whether I fucking hated everything I saw from Savage or if Carolina was just a better team (They are, but that's a different story). I feel like a lot of Texans fans I've gotten to interact with since the game are much higher on how the Texans did than I am right now.

Also, I haven't seen that much lack of discipline from our defense since the 2015 Atlanta game, thank god it's the preseason.

 

The play that worried me the most was the Kelvin Benjamin TD, he was great on that touchdown so not taking anything away from him, but Joseph went stride for stride with him and could not defend the play at all. On first watch, I don't feel like he did anything wrong at all, I think he just could not physically make a play and that worries me. It's the first time letting Bouye walk has legitimately worried me, I know Kevin Johnson can clean his play up and return to form but I'm not so sure with Johnathan Joseph.

I'm still surprised they kept Joseph instead of bouye but hey, Rick smith

 

I don't mind one bit.

 

What upsets me about it is the difference in cap between Joseph and Bouye wouldn't be THAT different (Bouye's obviously expensive but not too expensive and cutting Joseph frees up space). My thought was we'd use some of this extra cap to extend players (Hopkins, Clowney, Brown) and none of that has happened at all, feels like a waste unless we lock up Hopkins or Clowney.

 

Maybe he's waiting to see if clowney stays healthy? You have to lock up one or it's gtfo though.

 

Even if that's the case I'd rather seal the deal on a new Hopkins contract before Odell Beckham and Mike Evans set the market

 

Oh well I'll enjoy the season and enjoy rooting for the Texans because good or bad nothing in life matters because everyone's always gonna whine about something no matter what team they root for

 

Maybe he wants to sign both together? Do they have different agents? Or maybe he's literally just going to let them set the market and offer him a worse deal than he would've last year

Looks like Clowney's agency is BC Sports (Cam Newton's agent) and Hopkins's agency is CAA (Watt's agent)

One thing I've also wondered is if Rick is letting Hopkins have a better season before giving an offer, like if he knows last year was a "down year" and wants to give him a non-Brock chance to set his worth

 

But that would also be unlike Rick

 

I've never seen a gm hoping to pay his player more money, I don't think that's realistic lol he came off a really good year last year and didn't pay him

 

It's the whole "do right" premise, but I also wanted him to extend Hopkins after 2015 and he didn't so who knows hahaha

Exactly, like, in that scenario where you just can't reach the pass, why not try to make the receiver fail the catch instead? He doesn't have the ability to force incompletions anymore to compensate for his size. That's one thing Bouye can do.

 

Not saying Bouye 100% would have, but it's something I've noticed a lot from Joseph recently: He can make tackles, he can force incompletions if the ball's in his range, but he can't force drops

 

Apparently Kony Ealy is fighting for a roster spot in New England. Gettleman knew he was trash. Hurney would've gave him a contract.

This does feel pretty accurate on the Texans side, when I rewatch I'll watch Panthers players more specifically and see how I feel. I'm having to eat so much crow over Corey Moore considering how much better he played than most of our secondary.

 

David Yankey was a sneaky good addition. I remember liking him in the draft.
