I actually read it comes out to a little over 12. I can't imagine what the hell that dude was thinking and what is with these people cheering him on for giving a wealthy university their money back... that's disgusting. If you're going to leave, take it with you or at least if you're gonna come with that bs just negotiate to leave some on the table but take the rest.

and seriously - that program is fucked. even if Oregon were to fall off the map, they're NIKE U. and Washington is a beast. Washington State is doing real fucking well for itself. add in the rest of the Pac-12 and it's almost impossible to succeed there. hell, i forget they're even in the conference 99% of the season.

Oregon State is like the Illinois of the west coast except it doesn't have the Chicago area to try to steal 3-star kids from.

 

Best Oregon State team imo will be that 2001 team with Chad Johnson and TJ Houshmandzadeh. They were a tough offense with a then pretty respected former NFL head coach. As bigmike stated, it's just not an easy place to recruit. It's not a consistent high-talent producing state and has to compete with in-state rival Oregon and now Washington. Slowly add Washington St to the mix. Heck, even Cal has probably taken talent from them. That's a school that probably has to pull an Ole Miss at this point to really break ground on recruiting or get extremely lucky in their coaching and staff selections.

 

Fentress is an idiot but I hope that happens...would like to see him play when they come to Seattle a week later.

 

I can't speak for Illinois but I made my first trip to Corvallis two weeks ago for the UW game and that place was AWFUL. I don't understand why anybody would want to go there but then again I feel the same way about Eugene and that's worked out for a while now because of Uncle Phil but yeah, neither place does anything for me.

 

Oregon State needs an ass load of money behind them (like Oregon) or to somehow land a killer recruiter. I don't know how you do the latter without the former, though.

Edit: or go the Georgia Tech route and land someone that runs the triple option or some other offense that is more machine than athletic prowess.

 

It was echoed by other people but it's most of a crossing your fingers thing than totally realistic. They'll probably get wrecked either way, 3rd stringers across the board.

Also it doesn't feel like it but Oregon has been in two national championship games in the last 6 years and have been winning up till last year. A lot of kids go to schools to become pros and win, not because they love the area. I doubt people are in love with like Nebraska.
