You problem shouldn't be with the coaches, the problem is with the system put in place.

Coaches helped put that system in place.

Nah. It's the perfect sized program that could use an over the top, celebrity coach in a way. I'm more interested in Arizona State football now than I was 2 weeks ago.

I have a problem with the unjust system as well as those that take advantage of that system for their benefit

Sumlin's name has been attached to ASU and UCF lately. why the hell would oregon stoop to getting some coach teams tiers below them are looking at?

    This is absurd logic

Right. Sorry if I gave off the impression that I think that the system is correct or that coaches should be absolved from all responsibility. I don't think that, I just assume that everyone in the industry is always looking out for No. 1, so I guess I'm just not shocked by it. It screws over the kids -- though, I'm more concerned with the kids on the current roster than I am with the recruits. At almost any and all levels of FBS, the kids that de-commit from a school after the coach leaves, gets plenty of other contact from schools. I know when Fleck left WMU, the kids that de-committed that he didn't offer when he got to Minnesota had no problems landing other MAC offers; similar stuff happens in other conferences, and especially for FSU recruits and whatnot.

Oh yeah, Taggart doesn't deserve as much shit as, say, Fisher. Who, at the same time, doesn't deserve as much shit as Texas a&m for enabling Fisher.

I will say, however, that I'm always an advocate for kids to leave school early to do what's best for them financially. So I would feel hypocritical to say differently for the coaches. But, the coaches get to leverage their way into more money where as the players have like, actually negative amounts of leverage, so it's not quite apples to apples.

what is absurd about saying UO could get someone better than a couch shitcanned at a similarly-level program that has only been attached to a team in the same conference a tier below them and a program, that while better than them this year, is still a Go5 school?

If I told you Oregon almost hired the head coach from temple last year would you have thought it was a slam dunk or anything remotely positive?

If players got paid it would even out a little more and if there was a time period before LOI had to be sent out and when a coach could leave that would help a lot too. A coach leaving after the season and the early signing period being like a week or two away is very unfair for these kids who want to commit and enroll early.

yes. rhule is a decade younger than sumlin and deserved better than baylor tbh. what has sumlin done since manziel left? they can do better than someone who has been trending downward for 5 years now lol

Texas A&M is a better job than Oregon. To that end, Miami is a better job than Georgia and Mark Richt got fired from Georgia and hired by Miami who had just fired their own Mark Richt. Sumlin is perfect for Oregon. A school desperately clinging to their one moment in the spotlight hires a coach in the same exact situation who happens to run a very similar scheme.

Idk about the desperately clinging to one moment, that team is probably 9-10 wins with Herbert and they'll be better this coming year. Whoever gets that job is getting a good job where they should be able to win, much like strong with USF last year. Agree with everything else though. Biggest worry is he hasn't coached on the west coast for like 35 years lol
