in terms of games, i like 8 games best. but that brings the whole “”””amateurism”””” argument into it and that’s where it gets sketchy

i think it’s more, like, the “””student””” athletes don’t have to go through adding another game to their schedule. more than having extra time to prepare or whatever.

that means USC would be in this year. are they worthy of contending for the national championship? (not being snarky, just saying that none of us - i believe - feel USC should be a playoff team, but in an 8-team playoff this would be the case)

I'm totally okay with that. I love rewarding the top two teams with something...thats my gripe with 8

It needs to be an 8 team playoff. And the main reason is that the current 4 team set up makes some games irrelevant such as conference title games and bowl games referee the remaining 6 teams in the top 10. At least 8 would prevent a region completely dominating like the way this CFP turned out.

As a diehard Ohio State fan I’m disappointed, but the Iowa loss was really bad. Can’t deny that.

For those in favor of the top two teams getting a bye, tell me this - why would Oklahoma be more deserving of a bye than Georgia this year? Or Clemson for that matter.

Well like any debate you gotta go by various metrics. Sos... bad losses.. etc etc

They weren't irrelevant. The sec champ game was a playoff game. The acc champ game was a playoff game. The bigten was a playoff game for Wisconsin. Same with Oklahoma.

You know what makes the conf champ game irrelevant.... expanding the playoffs. The sec champ game irrelevent...big ten champ game irrelevant... acc champ game possibly irrelevant

That’s already decided though w/ the final rankings. In your system, right now, Georgia has to play an extra game with a resume that is the same, maybe even slightly better than Oklahoma’s. The bye week system absolutely does not work in a subjective selection process.

Comparing one opponent amongst two teams is pointless. I have already said the Iowa loss is what's incredibly stupid and why OSU didn't deserve #4 over Alabama. Overall, OSU played a much tougher schedule this season. If Wisconsin won, Alabama would have no chance to get it, but people would be arguing even harder that Alabama should be in.

Obviously, it can change week-to-week, which is why I'm arguing the overall schedule. OSU and Alabama (even with a weaker SEC) had a much tougher season than Wisconsin.

Exactly. I wasn't arguing Alabama being chosen at all. Even if Wisconsin won, I'd still think Alabama deserved to be in the playoffs more than any of these Big 10 teams. That wouldn't happen, but people would've been arguing about the rankings much more.

Wouldn't work out this year I agree. I'm okay with 4

  13. Totally think they are worthy - it’s what makes March madness so appealing

But that's also what makes college football so unique. Every game matters.

I don't want penn State or auburn or Wisconsin in the playoff.

One team got screwed..next year..dont get blown out bye iowa

  15. I disagree

Why wouldn’t you want auburn in the playoffs? They fucking beat Alabama and Georgia

Having a comitee pick the teams is irritating either way. Even if it becomes 8.

They lost 3 times. College football is about making every game matter. I never want to see a 3 loss team get a chance

  19. So do you also hate it when a wild card team wins the super bowl or World Series? Does it suck when a 7 or 8 seed wins the ncaa tourney?

Like I said that's what i like about college football...its different. And yes.. When the average st Louis cardinals win the world series it does suck.

Plus there's a reason why most people don't watch college basketball until February

This is an absurd argument. Florida in 2006, LSU in 2007, Alabama in 2011, Ohio State in 2014 - all teams that “shouldn’t have gotten a chance” and rolled to national titles.
