nope. it’s the highest ranked non-champ from the acc vs. the highest ranked non-champ from the Big Ten or SEC.

    it’s wisconsin miami

I’ll take Miami or USC. Less scared of either than Ohio State, tbh

I think the committee got it right. I also don't want to expand the playoffs. I think you're always going to have tough choices among several teams for the last spot or two. I like drawing the line at 4. That said, they will expand it because that is what we do to make more money.

oh interesting. You're right. I always read that and understood that as just being "odds are conf champ wont be in consideration since most likely they'd be in the playoff'...but you're right. Miami vs Wisconsin

Eight team playoff would be good here because then we could've just had Alabama vs OSU in round one to make the determination. haha

There’ll always be debates sure, but better to give more teams a chance. You’ll see 5-8 seeds winning national titles that never would’ve had a chance before

I think the next addition would be to six teams with top 2 seeds having a bye. Like the pro set up for playoffs. Would add an added dimension of two more teams but more importantly - having a bye for top 2 seeds.

Although honestly I don't know how much that helps depending on what the timing of the schedule would be. Everyone has 30ish days off now anyway. And most coaches don't want that much time to begin with because players get healthy but a little rusty.

Also don't know if they could add more teams / games due to timing of bowls / regular season schedule and school. I'm curious if there are rules in place for when games can take place so they don't interfere with classes and such.

8 team playoff matching up Wisconsin and UGA would be fun as hell

    Alabama’s loss is to Auburn.
Wisconsin’s loss is to Ohio State.

Until Auburn lost to Georgia, Auburn was clearly viewed by the committee to be the better team between those two teams. And even then, they’re still within a few spots of each other now ahead of a conference champion in USC.

That’s what puts Alabama in. A loss to Auburn (whose losses come from the #1 and #3 teams in the playoff, having beat #3 as well, and top 25 LSU) is more respectable than an Ohio State who lost to Iowa by four scores (whose other loss admittedly came to #2 in the final).

Wisconsin deserves to be in the discussion for the fourth spot more than OSU does...but they lost to OSU.

Which leaves Bama. Setting the precedent that a 1-loss non conference champion is better than a 2-loss conference champion was established last season.

Wisconsin does not. If they played the same schedule as OSU, they would not have come in undefeated. They had no rough match-ups in non-conference weeks. Ultimately, the Big 10 West was absolutely horrible this year and they avoided Penn State and Michigan State.

They did beat the powerhouse Iowa by 24 points.

That’s kind of the point of why Bama is the obvious #4 going by established precedents.

OSU had iowa on the schedule and iowa hung 55 on them. they played wisconsin the next week and gained 65 yards. don’t gimme that shit.

it’s almost like anything can happen every week and that’s why we play the games.

six teams is the best format, give the top two seeds a round one bye

  21. Power 5 champs plus the top ranked outsider.

    Clemson and Georgia get byes
UCF v Oklahoma and USC v Ohio State in first round

I would not want to see bye weeks awarded in a subjective selection process. It works in leagues that have formatted seeding.

  23. I like the 8 team idea - power 5 champs and 3 at large

Top group of five team guaranteed a spot if they meet a certain benchmark, sorta like what they did with BCS

i agree on six teams, but as i commented on this on my long post earlier, but everyone right now gets a bye of sorts anyway. all four teams have 30ish days off now. and i don't think most coaches want more time off. it sounds good on paper for prep and recovery, but unless they would move up the first four games (which would never happen - $$$) then that means about six weeks between conference championships and your playoff game.
