I mean, this isn't correct though lol. Like, this is cool and all to talk about as a fan and that's fine but don't try and level a discussion based around sentiment and "fun". That's not an argument.

 

The theory that using math and statistics sucks the soul out of sports is completely subjective. To make such a definitive statement is ludicrous. I want to see the best teams playing for the title. Also, I don't understand how someone "like using sabermetrics to help better understand what is going on in a game," yet ignores the same principles when it comes to another sport. And whether you use advanced statistics -- or any statistics at all -- is moot; the fact remains: fewer games in a season, more volatile wins and losses are when trying to figure out who is better than who.

which are probably different from the four best teams. because some times the best teams slip up and lost their shot and that is part of what makes sports interesting.

 

But Miami beat Notre Dame. That makes them awesome and deserving.

how far in advance to teams agree for games in future seasons? was talking with friends about Wisconsin's schedule and BYU and Utah State actually had pretty good records from 2011-2015/2016. this year both of those teams sucked, but like 3-5 years ago - when Wisconsin likely agreed to play them - they were posting 8-10 wins a year.

sucks that teams can't agree to play only a year or two before. sucks they have to have that decided like 5 years early.

It's just, I wish there was a way of knowing that Clemson would destroy Miami this badly. It's a shame Miami left no trail of mediocre play throughout the entire season, creating a clear, observable pattern of poor play that would be a signal to even the most blind of us that they are in fact, not an elite team. I'm personally shocked. I watched every game and saw no indication whatsoever that Miami was not a great team. I mean, they won all those games. I figured that mattered more than the fact that they fought tooth and nail to get wins against poor teams. Apparently it actually matters how you play the game. This is news to me. Anyway, I'm glad I got to see Notre Dame win a championship this decade. Man, I love watching Notre Dame destroy Alabama in that game. Just an overall great game from another team that didn't struggle at all against mediocre opponents continuously. It's a shame they let 1-loss Alabama compete at all, honestly.
