we've seen the shadow of the axe before Supporter

You can't even compare Butch to Gundy. They both didn't reach conference championships, but that's the only resemblance I see haha.

They should just hire Chad Morris

Huh. Would've thought his jealousy over Tee being the superior collegiate quarterback would've subsided over the years.

If we’re going to splash a lot of money on a coach with a decent record at a P5 school but not a homerun hire like the fans want, Gundy isn’t a bad option. I just don’t think he’s the right option. Really boils down to the staff he builds.

Also am I crazy for thinking Les Miles deserves an interview at the very least? Apparently he has contacted UT but they won't talk to him at all. @CarpetElf

I was more going off of "this was the year for Gundy" like last year was the year for Butch.

    I wanted Les tbh

As for Peyton, unless Gundy promised him OC/QB he shouldn’t get a say haha

I kind of think Peyton needs to ‘okay’ the hire.

Does Peyton give a ton of money to the university?

Yeah. But Tee Martin is fine and if Peyton can’t okay his back-up/successor he’s petty. Highly doubt he wouldn’t support him, though.

    Probably.

Jimmy Haslam is the #1 donor (and part owner of the Browns, iirc) and he is the one who really wanted Schiano. Apparently he is very vehemently against many people fans want. Most of the other donors and boosters banded together against him for the Schiano fiasco.

Thanks @Garrett L. If he's not in the top 5 donors, he shouldn't have a say on the coach.

Haslam is an awful, awful dude. That must suck. Donors shouldn't get to decide who becomes coach, that's ridiculous. Especially since haslam can't find a decent coach for the franchise that actually owns.

Haslam’s brother (or son? I can’t keep them straight) is the governor of Tennessee/former mayor of Knoxville. They’ve got a LOT of clout around here.

Just heard on a local radio station that an Oklahoma station is reporting Gundy to the Vols is a done deal. That’s grain of salt level shit there but it is what it is.

Was Gundy the coach at OkSt the year they got overlooked for the LSU/Bama rematch natty?

Maybe Gundy is just taking time to say bye to his team and what not before he accept tomorrow.

I’m sure it would be difficult to turn down a salary of around $7 million.

To be fair, donors are often donating the money that is going to be paid to the coach. At WMU, one of the Gores brother who is a big time hollywood dude and entrepreneur and is the brother of the Pistons owner, was paying like 2/3rds of Flecks salary out of his pocket. Granted, that's chump change compared to what Gundy will get, but that's the main reason they get so much sway in the process. Not that it's right, though.

Not necessarily. But in Tennessee's case, they need to get a guy who's been a HC with lot of experience. I just don't feel like it's a good time for them to experiment with someone unproven.

Disagree. They don't need a B- hire that they'll end up firing in 4-5 years. They need to take a shot at a potential A- hire and one that could stick around.

i f'n knew it! I told you... Ohio state has no chance (practically).

They need miami AND tcu to win

theyre trying to sell you that there's some sort of possible debate. I totally disagree. I think everything is pretty cut and dry.

The only possible 'debate' would be Miami or Alabama. That's the only one we have to talk about.

That loss to Iowa is just too disgusting to not look at. I'm baffled that there's even discussion about Ohio State after that.
