I bring him up because you wanted to give mike Riley another chance yet you think clearly mike gundy is trash and you would never hire him as your coach. You're making my point again, those players were good in college when coached by him but turned out to be duds in the pros.

Given the state of Tennessee's football program, and its fanbase, I respectfully disagree. You have a guy in Tee Martin sitting there, who every fan and former player would get excited about - I think you have to do it. Unite the fanbase, get people excited and optimistic about the future of Tennessee football again. From a recruiting standpoint, nobody will be able to sell the University of Tennessee better than the guy who led them to their last national championship.

He might be not be there yet, but he hasn't gotten a shot to prove otherwise either. I don't think Tennessee is in a position to be looking for a homerun hire, or a big-name splash. I think the fans would be willing to practice patience and watch a program build with Tee though.

If Gundy came to UT he would have to have an incredible D Coordinator to be successful I think.

Also he would have to find a qb, he seems at least decent at finding those

No let me daydream about getting in 60 point wide receiver shoot outs for like ten seconds

    lol. what.

I think Mike Gundy is overrated and they can do better. Trash? Haha ok. I wanted to give Riley a chance cause this was his first real year with us considering these were all his guys and coaches. Also, I'm not making your point. He had six first rounders in 12 years and only two of them lasted. Blackmon lacked discipline, coaching issue. Gilbert had no idea what the fuck he was doing because Gundy doesn't coach defense and you can't just "go be an athlete" in the NFL. Wedden just wasn't good, I have no justification for that because I honestly don't know how or why that happened.

They can do better? Really? Who else is interested and has as good of a resume?

    Tee Martin not interested?

Mike gundy has a better resume than tee Martin, I'm not saying I wouldn't hire tee Martin but that's how teams look at it. Why else would they take schiano over him? Established track record. I'm by no means saying gundy is top tier but getting someone who wins when they've been so down the last decade is a big win.

He better get a slam-dunk DC lined up.

If they're willing to pay him a shitload to leave Stillwater they're willing to pay a top tier sec Defensive coordinator too haha

The fact that literally everyone here acknowledges he needs someone at the very top of their industry to counter his flaws is exactly my point.

Gundy has a better resume is also a weird argument. That would mean no coordinators ever get promoted because they'll always have a .000 win percentage. I don't care how many times Gundy can win 100 point games against Texas Tech.

Him waiting until tomorrow to make his decision kind of worries me.

He flirts with jobs all the time, I wouldn't bet that he was ever going to take it. If he takes it I'll be surprised. He talked to Baylor extensively last year.

I think Gundy is a fine coach, I just think he brings a ceiling with him. He is what he is, IMO. Tee Martin, however, brings an untapped potential to hit a home run that Tennessee should be striving for. If Tennessee wants to be a consistent like 8-win team, then yeah, go with Gundy. If you want to get back into national relevance, I think Tee Martin is where you go. Maybe he'll flop but I think that's better than settling for a coach like Gundy who is a known commodity: a good but not great coach.

Also, Gundy is a mad man if he takes that job. What he has at OSU is crazy good.

That’s what I would have thought too. Especially considering he played QB there.

Also I generally can’t stand Cowherd, but this makes some sense:

Currie has basically said he won’t hire Tee fwiw. That’s why his name isn’t being tossed around by anyone serious. Which is BAFFLING.

Also apparently Peyton is not on board with him being the HC.

Alternatively: "Mike Gundy had every opportunity to win and came up short, it's the perfect time for Tennessee to fire a coach for doing that and then hire another with the exact same issue."

I don't think that argument makes any sense at all. Oklahoma is a better team than Oklahoma State. Because of that, he should take a job at a school that won't hesitate to fire him in four years if he only wins 30 games?
