David Cutcliffe as HC with Tee Martin as OC is something I've seen a couple times today as a "we should chase this." I wouldn't hate it.

 

I could see cutcliffe getting it but would Martin leave USC for the same job? Idk

Maybe if cutcliffe is like I'm retiring in two years, you can take over haha

 

Tbch, I would stay away from Knoxville if I was a coach looking for a job. Really.

I agree with this, haha. But I also think the coach that does end up here, barring absolutely horrid coaching statistics, will be stupidly enthusiastically embraced because he's not Schiano for at least one season.

Cutcliffe is overrated. Yeah, he had a couple decent seasons at Duke but he did so when the ACC was garbage. Now that the top programs in the conference are back Duke is bad again.

 

Duke also has no leg to stand on. A legit school that isn't even the best football school is eyesight? How do you recruit that?

He's doing way more with less. If you get Duke to a bowl game, you're a good coach.

 

Not saying he’s a bad coach. But not being able to do better than him is embarrassing for a program like Tennessee imo.

 

I disagree about that.

Derek Dooley was an embarrassing hire for Tennessee. Butch Jones was an up-and-coming coach with a proven track record at Central Michigan and Cincinnati. That move just completed backfired on them.

David Cutcliffe is a familiar face there that has the support of Tennessee's most legendary player.

Cutcliffe as OC and Chavis as DC were a big part of Fulmer's status as a great. And his "collapse." (We've deserved all of this decade of debacles for firing him for one season.) But Fulmer's record was 152-52 (96-34 SEC)... Kiffin, Dooley, and Butch (and the three games coached by interims between) were 57-56 (22-49).

If Cutcliffe or Chavis want a chance, I think they've earned it.
