Oregon State's current coach was the one who bolted Wisconsin after a year or two for Oregon State right? and who came from Utah State? that always struck me as super random and seriously dumb - although obviously expectations are much lower in Corvallis which means much less stress. in Corvallis a 4 win season probably gets you a parade and a raise.

well, there's a way to have much less stress and expectation. does he have ties to Arizona State / Arizona area? seems like a weird move, but not sure what else he would have coming his way if he gets booted from A&M

 

I like that hire. Seems like a win/win. ASU gets a reasonably big name coach and Sumlin gets to stay at a Power 5 school.

 

talking with friends about college football rivalries and looking over some of the major rivalries the morning and the numbers make it seem like there really aren't that many "rivalries" over the last two decades as college football would like us to think there are:

* VT vs Virgina - VT has won 14 straight games
* Michigan vs Ohio State - Ohio State has won 13 of last 14 games
* Wisconsin vs Minnesota - Wisconsin has won 14 straight games
* Oklahoma vs Oklahoma State - Oklahoma is 13-2 over last 15 games (and Oklahoma leads series 87-18 overall. seriously, does this count as a "rivalry" game?)
* Oklahoma vs Texas - Oklahoma is 6-4 over last 10 games (found this surprising)
* Michigan vs Michigan State - Michigan State is 8-2 over last 10 games
* Army vs Navy - Navy is 14-1 over last 15 games
* Washington vs WSU - Washington 8-2 over last 10 games
* Oregon vs Oregon State - Oregon 9-1 over last 10 games
* Georgia vs Georgia Tech - Georgia 7-3 over last 10 games (2-2 over last 4)
* Alabama vs Auburn - Alabama 7-3 over last 10 games (you'd think this was more even with how much they talk this up and always show the kick-six)
