Recruiting is the most important piece imo, but development and overall coaching plan are super important. In-game X's and O's is just a culmination of all that work behind the scenes coming together. How you practice and develop players are critical to long-term success. Those are some of the areas where I am critical of Mora.

The Athletic is opening a college football column on their website, sweet. I might finally subscribe.

    That can't be real

He's probably gonna end up being a center for Kentucky instead

10000%. Jim Mora is one hell of a recruiter but he can't develop to save his life (quite literally since I think he is canned after this year).

You can recruit five star guys all day long but if you can't coach them up and develop them on and off the field, it matters none.

It's why I love Chris Petersen so much. He did so much with so little at Boise State and now at Washington, he's doing much the same.

Sidney Jones was a three star corner with offers only from Washington, Utah, and San Jose State and we all see what he turned into. Kevin King was also a three star corner and again, he's now a promising young NFL talent.

I'm not sure Chris Petersen has ever had a five star kid before. I think the best guy he's ever reeled in was Budda Baker who was a high four star guy who is now also in the NFL.

I think with UWs continued success and he starts reeling in these high four star and some five star kids, it's going to be interesting to see what he can do there.

Richie James might be the most underrated player in college football.

Give me Washington State and Pittsburgh over Tennessee and Utah.

I'd also take FSU over Ohio State and Wisconsin should not be above LSU.

because preseason rankings are pointless conjecture mean to capitalize on the fans thirst for concussion-laden football played by unpaid athletes B-)

As a Tennessee fan, I can't see us doing better than 7-5 this season after losing all of our game changers but one to the NFL. That ranking makes me mad, haha.

I figured UW was going to be ahead of Penn State at least here but the difference is almost nothing. Probably knocked down a few pegs because of the NFL losses in the secondary....the rest of the CFB world will soon find out that this secondary might even be better than last years.

I'm not sure they will be better. But they will still be very good. Honestly I think the defense will be better just because the front seven will deliver more and that will make them appear better. Rapp is legit though.

Better might be a stretch but I don't think the drop-off is going to be much, if anything at all. Jordan Miller is going to step right in and fill the Kevin King shoes, imo and Byron Murphy is regarded as the best CB prospect that Chris Petersen has ever had and all indications thus far are backing those claims up.

So we will see but yes, Taylor Rapp is an animal and as you said, the front seven is where this defense is going to start this year. I saw something the other day that had the LB duo of Azeem Victor & Keishawn Bierria as the best 1-2 LBs in the county.

I'm very excited for this college season. Really wanting to see if Flowers takes a leap and how Guice reacts to being the starter and if Mayfield keeps improving. Mayfield is my dude.

This is the first time I've had a job where I have most weekends off. First time I'll be able to watch college football regularly in years. Even when I covered college football, I was always at a game and focused on that one game/writing stories/yadda yadda. It'll be really nice to just veg out on the couch watching games as a fan now.

Dude I feel this so much. My day used to have me off on Mondays but we had to fire someone so I got her old day off which is Saturday. My second job had an agreement to never schedule me on my day off so I was so fucking excited.

I saw some rankings of possibl COTY candidates and Matt luke was pretty high, I was a little surprised but ole miss is still a pretty good team so it kind of makes sense.

Also I had no idea Matt lubick literally took the ole miss job, then left for a Baylor job and then is now washingtons co oc lol talk about a carousel

Lubick has been a monster WR recruiter in the short time he's been here.
